Leigh Copson: Back Uruguay to win to nil vs. Peru @ 29/20 Coral

Uruguay remain a leading contender to deny Brazil Copa America glory on home soil after completing an unbeaten group campaign. They stormed out of the blocks with a 4-0 rout of Ecuador on opening night, but they twice had to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Japan in their second outing. They made a return to winning ways as Edinson Cavani’s goal eight minutes from time handed them a 1-0 over Chile in midweek and they will now look to end the week by dispatching Peru in the quarter-finals on Saturday night.

While Uruguay advanced to the last eight with a win over Chile, Peru were limping into the knockout phase on the back of a 5-0 hammering at the hands of host nation Brazil. An opening-night draw against Venezuela and 3-1 win over Bolivia was enough to see them stay in the competition, but it is very difficult to see them extending their stay by knocking off the Uruguayans here.

That 2-2 draw with Japan was certainly a disappointing result for Oscar Tabarez’s side, but it should not take away from the good run of form they have been on since the start of the year – a far cry from when they ended 2018 with a run of four straight friendly defeats. The Uruguayans have gone six games unbeaten, winning five times, and one statistic that stands out above all is their knack for keeping clean sheets when they win. Uruguay to win to nil has been a winning bet on each of their last five competitive victories and 11 of their last 13. I cannot ignore that, especially when they are taking on a Peru side who failed to score in four of their last six matches, so I recommend backing Uruguay to win to nil once again as they book a place in the semi-finals.
