The 2019 Copa America continues on Thursday night and we have looked over the fixtures to pick out our favourite bet from South America’s premier international football tournament.

Leigh Copson: Back Uruguay -2 to beat Japan @ 7/5 Coral

Uruguay raced out of the blocks at the Copa America thanks to a 4-0 rout of Ecuador. The 15-time winners needed just six minutes to break the deadlock through Nicolas Lodeiro, and by half-time it was all over as they took full advantage of Jose Quintero’s red card thanks to an Edinson Cavani goal just after the half-an-hour mark and a Luis Suarez goal just before the break. All that was left was for an Arturo Mina own goal to wrap things up late on and the Uruguayans will now focus on making it two wins from two games in Group C on Thursday.

Next up for Uruguay are one of the non-South American teams that have been invited to take part in the tournament – Japan. Samurai Blue last appeared in the Copa America 20 years ago and they made a pretty dismal return as they were walloped 4-0 by Chile. They held out for 41 minutes before Eric Pulgar finally broke the deadlock and looked set to suffer something of a respectable defeat when they entered the final 10 minutes 2-0 down. However, an Alexis Sanchez goal and Eduardo Vargas’ second of the game added some gloss to Chile’s victory and it has left Japan on shaky ground going into their penultimate group game.

Japan really do need to take something from this match, but when you compare how the two teams fared in their respective openers it is difficult to see that happening. This match is Uruguay’s for the taking and I am confident that they will walk away with all three points to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition and stay on course for a record-setting 16th Copa America success. I expect them to win in style too – that forward line will be far too much for Japan to handle and I would not be remotely shocked to see the Uruguayans get close to or even better Chile’s haul.
