Uruguay v Brazil Betting Tips Explained

Brazil have bounced back from their Copa America failure in emphatic fashion, reeling off seven straight victories. Six of those have come in qualifying for next summer’s World Cup and that means they boast a comfortable four-point cushion at the top of the CONMEBOL group with 27 points taken from possible 36.

Next up for them is a trip to face the second-place Uruguayans, so a win here would see them take a commanding lead at the summit and move them within touching distance of a spot in Russia. But can they beat Uruguay? After all, they were held to a 2-2 draw when the two teams met in Recife last March. The Brazilians made a storming start to take the lead inside 27 minutes, but Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez rescued a draw for the Uruguayans and they will fancy their chances on home soil.

Oscar Tabarez’s team were beaten 3-1 in Chile last time out and they may have won only one of their last three qualifiers, but their home record has been spotless in qualifying. The Uruguayans have won all six of their home games so far, scoring 16 goals and conceding just one, so it would not be a major upset to see them taking something from this match. It really is a tough one to call, so I suggest avoiding the match betting market because this could go either way or end in a draw.

Instead I suggest backing goals. Uruguay may have only conceded one goal on their home turf during qualifying, but this Brazilian side is averaging over two goals per game and they have more than enough firepower to find a way through this Uruguayan defence. But of course, the hosts have a wealth of attacking talent themselves in the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, so I expect both nets to bulge just like they did a year ago.

And if you are looking to back a goalscorer you are spoilt for choices. My selection is backing Neymar to score anytime here. The Barcelona star is a man in form having scored four goals in his last four appearances for the La Liga giants, while on the international stage he has been in blistering form with eight goals in his last eight appearances. Neymar will be a massive headache for this Uruguayan defence and I like his chances of scoring his fifth goal in his last six World Cup qualifying outings.
