Tottenham Hotspur v Everton Betting Tips Explained

Tottenham Hotspur’s top four challenge suffered a setback as they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United last week, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now lost only one of their last 10 competitive fixtures, winning seven of them, and they are enjoying a decent run of form at Wembley Stadium having gone nine competitive games without a defeat at their temporary home, winning seven of them.

However, they are three points off the top four heading into their third outing of 2018 and that means the pressure will be on them to extend this solid home run with three more points from Saturday evening’s visit of out-of-form Everton.

The Toffees made a superb start to life under Sam Allardyce as they collected 13 points during a five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League – with their only dropped points coming in the derby draw at Liverpool – but their form tailed off during the hectic Christmas period and that has left them in danger of dropping out of the top half of the table.

Allardyce’s men have collected just two points from their last four Premier League outings and last weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Liverpool was their third straight loss in all competitions. They desperately need to stop the rot at Wembley on Saturday, even if it is by recording a draw that would extend their winless run to six games, but I do not see that happening.

For all of the Wembley hoodoo chatter that has surrounded Spurs this season, they have been strong at their temporary home over the past few months and their recent record against Everton is nothing short of impressive. In fact, you could call it dominant. Tottenham cruised to a 3-0 victory when they visited Goodison Park earlier this season and they are now unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with the blue half of Merseyside, while the Toffees have not beaten their hosts in London since a 2-1 success at White Hart Lane back in November 2008.

When you compare the form of these two clubs everything points to a home win on Saturday, and I expect we will see a few goals too, just like we did in the first meeting. Six of Tottenham’s last 10 competitive fixtures have produced in excess of 2.5 Total Goals and this has been a winning bet in two of Everton’s last three away games, so combining a Spurs win with over 2.5 goals is a really tempting bet here.

And speaking of goals, I recommend backing Son Heung-Min to find the back of the net for Tottenham. It would be easy to suggest going with Harry Kane after his weekend double, but Son has been in excellent form at Wembley over the past month or so, scoring in five of Spurs’ last six outings at the national stadium, and that purple patch makes him a tempting anytime goalscorer bet for this meeting with Everton.
