Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace Betting Tips Explained

Tottenham Hotspur go into Sunday’s match on the back of one of the most famous wins in the history of the club – a superb 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek. Dele Alli struck twice and Christian Eriksen also got his name on the scoresheet as Spurs stunned the current holders of this competition – the perfect response to crashing out of the League Cup and losing at Manchester United a week ago – and afterwards manager Mauricio Pochettino hailed his side as one of the best in all of European football.

“We now belong not only with the best in England, but in Europe,” Pochettino insisted. “What we have to do is move to the next level and that is winning things… We are starting to believe in our potential and qualities. We are able to compete with teams now on a physical and mental level. This sort of win has consequences in terms of making us more visible. It's something that everyone around Europe will have seen.”

He is right about that. Spurs booked their place in the knockout stage with that stunning win and very few clubs can claim to have taken four points off Real in the group stage of a Champions League. But like Pochettino said, they now have to take it to the next level by winning trophies and they will be looking to boost their Premier League title challenge by claiming all three points from this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium.

Palace have managed to take four points from their last three games in the Premier League – a sequence that includes a shock win over Chelsea – but they continue to prop up the rest of the division and they continue to boast not only the worst away record in the English top flight, but also one of the worst away records in all of European football. The Eagles have lost all five of their away games so far, scoring no goals and conceding 12, and that does not bode well for a meeting with a Spurs team who should claim all three points and a clean sheet from this meeting.

And for my second recommendation I suggest backing Dele Alli to get on the scoresheet for the home side. The return of Harry Kane in midweek was a major boost for Spurs, but it was Alli who grabbed the headlines with his two goals either side of the break, and the midfielder has now netted four goals in his last four appearances. Alli has also been scoring regularly at the club’s temporary home of Wembley Stadium this season, netting six goals in eight outings at the national stadium, so I would not be surprised to see him find the back of Palace’s net on Sunday.
