Sutton United v Arsenal Betting Tips Explained

Non-league Sutton United have lasted longer in the FA Cup than several Premier League clubs – including Liverpool. Not even the most ardent of Sutton supporters would have predicted that when the team embarked on its FA Cup quest several months ago, but that is the case after they sensationally knocked Leeds United out of the competition in the fourth round.

Sutton were 83 places below the South Yorkshire outfit when the two teams stepped out onto the artificial Gander Green Lane pitch last month, but they dominated the match and Jamie Collins’ second-half penalty clinched a deserved victory for Paul Doswell’s men.

Their reward is a fifth round clash with Premier League giants Arsenal, who overcame a scare in round three to oust Preston North End. They then stormed to a 5-0 victory at Southampton in round four, but since then their form has tailed off miserably and once again Arsene Wenger finds himself standing up to heavy criticism. Defeat to a non-league side in the FA Cup would make his position untenable, but does anyone really expect to see anything other than an Arsenal win here?

Astroturf pitch. Less-than-glamourous surroundings. A weakened starting XI. There will be many reasons offered for a massive upset between now and kick-off, but the simple reality is that even a second-string Arsenal XI should be more than good enough to sweep aside the non-league outfit. Even without his star names, Wenger will name a strong line-up of fringe players and they should avoid an upset by winning this match in comfortable fashion in 90 minutes.

This game will be an opportunity for Lucas Perez to get some much-needed playing time after an underwhelming start to life at Arsenal. The Spanish striker was a big-money signing late in the summer transfer window, but he has found first-team starts and goals hard to come by since then. The cup competitions have afforded him some opportunities and Perez could get another chance to impress Wenger on Monday night. If he does, I expect him to get on the scoresheet.
