Sporting Club travel to Sporting Braga on Sunday evening seeking a win that they hope will see them snatch the Primeira Liga title from the hands of Lisbon rivals Benfica at the death.

It's 42 years since Sporting and Benfica took the title race down to the last match of the season but the Lions are at a disadvantage heading into Sunday's thrilling finale to the campaign, as they trail the Eagles by two points and need to win and for their bitter foes to slip up at home to Nacional in order to secure their 19th league title.

That's an unlikely scenario given Benfica's recent run of 12 wins on the bounce in the Portuguese top flight, although club president Bruno de Carvalho insists anything can happen 'while it is mathematically possible' for them to win the title.

"Going into the last match of the season, we are two points behind first place. Of course it isn't the place we would prefer to be in and of course we would like to be in first. However, we are completely focused and we know anything could happen. That is what makes football such a beautiful game. While it is mathematically possible, anything can happen," he told reporters.

"What I see is a Sporting team focused on our match and that believes that we can bring home a title that we have been missing for so long now. We will do everything we can to do that."

The visitors warmed up for the clash with a thumping 5-0 win over Vitória Setúbal last time out, which was their eighth win on the trot since losing their grip on top spot to Benfica following a 1-0 loss at home to the Eagles at the start of March.

Sporting have already beaten Braga on two occasions this season but they were both close affairs as they required extra-time to secure a 4-3 victory in the Portuguese Cup and a last minute strike from Islam Slimani to register a 3-2 win in the reverse fixture in the league.

With Braga already assured a fourth placed finish and qualification for next season's Europa League, Sporting fans will be hoping that Paulo Fonseca's charges have one eye on their Taca de Portugal final against FC Porto later this month.

We expect this one to be another close encounter but are backing the visitors to come out on top.
