The 2017-18 Serie A season has reached the halfway stage and its 20th round of matches on January 5-6, and we have picked out the best bet available on each of Saturday’s eight games.

Torino vs Bologna – Home win @ 6/5 with William Hill (11:30 GMT kick-off)

Torino sacked manager Sinisa Mihajlovic this week, perhaps a shade harshly based on results because they have lost only one of their last nine Serie A matches although six of them have ended as draws.

Former Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has taken over and he is fancied to make a winning start against Bologna, who have been beaten in seven of their latest 11 games.

We will go for some value here because Sassuolo have been showing improved form over the last month or so and performed very well in their games either side of Christmas, beating Inter Milan and then drawing away to Roma.

Genoa are also going along quite nicely just now having tightened things up very adeptly at the back, but on the other hand they do not score many goals and so we will take a chance on Sassuolo to edge it.

SPAL vs Lazio – Away win and over 1.5 goals in the match @ 5/6 with Paddy Power (14:00 GMT)

Following a difficult spell straight after the November international break, Lazio have got themselves back on track quite nicely and kept three consecutive clean sheets in the league and cup.

They should be good enough to account for SPAL, although the fact the home side tend to score quite a few goals on their own pitch suggests it is worth ruling out 1-0 as a winning option for us here in order to boost the odds.

Benevento vs Sampdoria – Away win @ 23/20 with BetStars (14:00 GMT)

At the 19th time of asking, Benevento finally got a first Serie A win under their belt last weekend when they kept a clean sheet and edged past Chievo with a Massimo Coda goal.

But the top-flight newbies remain tailed off at the bottom of the table and will have their work cut out here against a Sampdoria side who got back on track against SPAL in their final match of 2017 thanks to a Fabio Quagliarella double.

AC Milan vs Crotone – Both teams to score @ 21/20 with Unibet (14:00 GMT)

Milan are red-hot favourites here but have not won any of their last three games, including two decisive defeats to nil, and we do not fancy siding with them at short prices for the time being.

Crotone have lost seven out of eight in the league and cup, but with Milan struggling to keep clean sheets just now it could be worth backing the visitors to join their hosts in finding the net.

Napoli vs Verona – Home win to nil @ 10/11 with Paddy Power (14:00 GMT)

With some of the other potential contenders dropping away, Napoli have again emerged as the biggest threat to Juventus’ domination of the Scudetto and can ensure they stay top of the table with a comfortable victory over Verona.

Maurizio Sarri’s side are better at scoring goals than keeping them out, but Verona have lost heavily to nil on their last two away days and more of the same could be in store for them here.

Roma vs Atalanta – Draw @ 3/1 with Betfair Sportsbook (17:00 GMT)

Roma have gone three games without a win for the first time this season and with Atalanta on a great run of form away from home, that could become four.

Atalanta put Napoli out of the Coppa Italia this week and previously had won back-to-back at AC Milan and Genoa, so a point in the Stadio Olimpico should not be beyond the team that faces Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League knockout stage next month.

Juventus -1 on the handicap away to Cagliari @ Evens with BetStars (19:45 GMT)

Although Verona ended Juve’s superb streak of eight clean sheets last weekend, the champions still won comfortably and look likely to do so again on their trip to Sardinia.

Cagliari did enjoy an excellent victory of their own away to Atalanta, but the form of Massimiliano Allegri’s side is ominously strong as the title race turns into a duel between they and Napoli and we doubt they will slip up in this game.
