Serie A predictions for the final day of the season on Sunday, May 26. Can Atalanta confirm their best ever finish in Serie A, and will Inter Milan or AC Milan miss out on a place in next season’s Champions League? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

Atalanta v Sassuolo (19:30 BST)

Atalanta put their Coppa Italia Final heartbreak behind them last weekend with a creditable draw at champions Juventus that has put them on the brink of their best ever finishing position in Serie A. However, both AC Milan and Inter Milan are breathing down their necks head into the final weekend of the season and that means a negative result could see the slide out of the top four and out of the Champions League qualifying spots if results go against them. So can Atalanta make this an historic season for them? Visitors Sassuolo are closing in on only their second ever top-half finish in Serie A, but they have found wins hard to come by this season. They are on course for their worst win total since reaching the top flight for the first time in 2013 and it is difficult seeing them reach double figures for wins at the expense of an in-form Atalanta side. The hosts have scored at least twice in each of their last nine victories and that spells trouble for Sassuolo, who do not score many goals away from home and have struggled to keep clean sheets away from home. Everything points to Atalanta winning this one.

Inter Milan v Empoli (19:30 BST)

Inter Milan are clinging onto fourth place in the table following last weekend’s humiliating 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Napoli. That loss coupled with a victory for AC Milan means just one point is separating the two clubs heading into the final day of the season and that also means that there is a good chance that one of these Milan clubs will deny the other a place in next season’s Champions League. But will it be Inter Milan who are celebrating at full-time? They certainly have the ideal fixture in which to wrap up their league campaign – a home meeting with an Empoli side who are just one point clear of the relegation zone and in serious danger of going down this season. The visitors have given their survival fight a huge shot in the arm by winning three straight games, but they have the worst away record in the Italian top flight and there is no way that I am backing them for an upset here. Inter ran out 1-0 winners when they visited Empoli back in December and I expect them to keep another clean sheet as they run out winners here. After all, 14 or Inter’s 19 Serie A successes this season have seen them shut out the opposition.

SPAL v AC Milan (19:30 BST)

AC Milan moved within touching distance of the top with a 2-0 victory over Frosinone last time out, extending their win streak to three games, but they are a point behind third-place Atalanta and fourth-place Inter Milan heading into the final day and their inferior goal difference means nothing less than a victory will do if they are to somehow snatch a Champions League berth from under the noses of one of those two clubs. Milan have found away wins hard to come by this season, but they are in good form right now and in SPAL they are facing a team who have one of the worst home records in the top tier. Milan can take advantage of this, but I am not expecting this match to descend into a goalfest. Only three of Milan’s 18 Serie A wins this season have produced in excess of three goals.
