Serie A predictions for Sunday February 17. Will Chievo boost their slim hopes of avoiding relegation and can Empoli climb out of the drop zone? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

SPAL vs Fiorentina (11:30 GMT)

Although their position of 14th in the Serie A table is quite healthy, SPAL will not consider themselves to be anything like safe from relegation because they only have four points to spare over the drop zone.

The Ferrara-based club started the season very well but since November they have been drawing too many games, especially at home – and another stalemate looks to be on the cards when they host Fiorentina.

The Viola have been made warm favourites to beat Leonardo Semplici’s side, but they are similar to SPAL in that an inordinate number of their matches finish all-square – 10 of their last 17 to be precise – and it looks a very sensible way to bet on this game.

Empoli vs Sassuolo (14:00 GMT)

Apart from a fruitful spell that lasted a month from mid-November, Empoli have been enduring a pretty miserable campaign and on current form they are difficult to fancy against Sassuolo.

Giuseppe Iachini’s men have taken only two points from the last 24 available and they could not even beat rock-bottom Chievo in their latest match at the Stadio Carlo Castellani which finished 2-2.

This has not been a vintage campaign for mid-table Sassuolo either, but they have become a permanent fixture in the top flight unlike yo-yo club Empoli. The side from Reggio Emilia are finding it easier than the hosts to win matches and this one looks there for the taking.

Udinese vs Chievo (14:00 GMT)

It looks as though Chievo’s 11-year spell in Serie A – they have been there every season bar one since 2001-02 – is set to finally end as they find themselves nine points from safety, not helped by a three-point deduction after being found guilty of false accounting.

But since November, the Verona-based club have been more difficult to beat and proven quite stoic away from home with a series of draws including at second-placed Napoli.

They should not be fearful of a trip to face Udinese. That is because the club nicknamed the Little Zebras have taken only one point from their last four matches, the low point being a 4-0 loss to Sampdoria, and avoiding defeat certainly does not look to be beyond Domenico Di Carlo’s visitors.
