The 2017-18 Serie A season has reached its 18th round of matches on December 22-23 and we have picked out the best bet available on each of Friday’s two games.

Chievo vs Bologna – Draw @ 47/20 with MarathonBet (17:00 GMT kick-off)

These teams are side-by-side in the table in 12th and 13th positions, level on 21 points, Bologna just having the edge primarily because they concede much fewer goals away from home than Chievo.

And that is one of the reasons why we fancy the visitors to claim a point here because they should be able to keep things tight enough to frustrate a Chievo side who are generally more effective on their own pitch than on their travels.

Although Bologna have lost three of their last four away matches, they were all by just a one-goal margin against teams in the top eight of the table and we do not anticipate this being a high-scoring affair.

Moreover, Chievo are draw specialists and three of their last four home matches have finished either 0-0 or 1-1, so the best policy here looks to be backing both sides not to deviate from their recent trends and expect the spoils to be shared in a spectacle unlikely to be worth writing home about.

Cagliari vs Fiorentina – Under 2.5 goals @ 21/20 with MarathonBet (19:45 GMT kick-off)

Fiorentina look very opposable favourites here at around the 5/4 mark, especially because they are without a win in their last four away matches with three draws and a defeat.

The Viola were also held 0-0 at home by Genoa on Sunday when their finishing was particularly wayward and restoring striker Khouma Babacar to the starting line-up looks an obvious option for manager Stefano Pioli.

If Cagliari were a bigger price in the Double Chance market than around 7/10 we would recommend them, but those odds do not set the pulse racing and instead we will side with the ‘unders’ at a shade of odds-against.

It’s now two of Fiorentina’s last three matches that have ended goalless, so they have no problems keeping opponents out, and although Cagliari’s home games tend to be more on the high-scoring side, we will put faith in the visitors’ goalkeeper Marco Sportiello who has kept three consecutive clean sheets in Serie A.
