Bookmaker William Hill was celebrating as much as Tottenham Hotspur fans were when Manchester City’s last minute winner against the London club was chalked off due to VAR.

City were 2/7 favourites to win the match and looked to have snatched all three points when Gabriel Jesus struck in added time to put them 3-2 up, but an eagle-eyed VAR official spotted that the ball had struck Aymeric Laporte’s arm in the build-up and it was subsequently chalked off.

Spurs fans celebrated like they had won a trophy – and they were not the only ones!

Early estimations are predicting that the swing from loss to win for the betting industry went from £100,000 down to a £1million win (90 minutes only), according to bookmaker William Hill.

“City were clear favourites to win the match and were the fourth best backed side across the entirety of the UK on Saturday,” William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com.

“VAR has had its critics already this season. However, we aren’t complaining!”

Latest William Hill Odds

Premier League winner: 1/2 Manchester City; 5/2 Liverpool; 16/1 Tottenham; 25/1 Manchester United; 40/1 Arsenal; 50/1 Chelsea; 200/1 BAR
