It´s not common knowledge, but the two teams that have taken the most points off Real Madrid in the last decade have been Barcelona and… Osasuna. And that´s not a typo.
Since the start of the new millennium Osasuna have beaten Madrid five times, and have only failed to take points off Los Blancos in four of the thirteen consecutive seasons they have played in Spain´s top flight, a fact well illustrated the last time these two teams met in December.

Real were flying high, third in La Liga and massacring teams for fun, scoring 24 goals in just five games when they ran into Osasuna, and found themselves 2-0 down inside 40 minutes. Real fought back; Isco scored at the end of the first half, and Pepe spared Madrid’s blushes by grabbing the equalizer ten minutes from time.

Madrid escaped with a 2-2 draw, but their confidence was clearly rocked, and they have looked out of sorts in La Liga since, struggling to defeat a managerless Valencia 3-2 in their final game of 2013, and receiving criticism from manager Carlo Ancelotti over their performance in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Celta Vigo, when he said afterward – not for the first time – that Madrid’s play was “far too slow.”

Osasuna are unbeaten since the Madrid draw, and have now not lost in five in all competitions, although only their last – a 1-0 win over Espanyol at the weekend – was a win. In La Copa, they eliminated fellow La Liga side Malaga in the previous round, going through on away goals.

In reality, although Osasuna have had their successes against Madrid, they have also been on the wrong end of some severe maulings – notably a 5-1 home thrashing in 2012, and a 7-1 annihilation at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2011. The last time Osasuna visited Madrid in last season’s La Liga, they were beaten 4-2.

This should still be quite an entertaining game, with both sides having half an eye on upcoming fixtures at the weekend – Madrid with a tricky trip to Catalonia to take on Espanyol, and Osasuna – still far from safe – looking to grab three points from bottom club Real Betis.

Madrid are obviously massive favorites, and are 15/2 (Paddy Power) to win this tie 3-0. A more conservative 2-0 victory is 17/2 (Bet Victor), and the home side to squeak it 1-0 is 15/1 (Bet Victor).

A 1-0 away win for Osasuna is a hefty 90/1 (Paddy Power), with a 2-1 victory for the visitors at 100/1 (Bet Victor). A 2-2 finish like December´s La Liga result is 2-2 (Bet Victor), and a 0-0 finish is 45/1 (Coral).

Nailed on Ballon d’Or winner (probably) Cristiano Ronaldo is 2/1 (888sport) to score the first goal, with Gareth Bale 18/5 (Unibet), Karim Benzema at 4/1 (Bwin) and Isco at 6/1 (Ladbrokes). Osasuna´s top-scorer Oriol Riera is 18/1 (bet365) to open the score for the visitors.

Best bet; Real Madrid to win 3-0 (15/2 Paddy Power)
