Rangers v St Joseph’s predictions for the Europa League qualifier on Thursday, July 18. Will Rangers cruise to another victory over the minnows from Gibraltar? Read on for all of our free betting tips and predictions.

Rangers v St Joseph’s

Rangers took a giant stride towards the next round of Europa League qualifying a week ago as they eased to a 4-0 win over St Joseph’s in Gibraltar. As expected it took a little time for the Gers to break down their defensively stubborn hosts, but once Ryan Jack opened the scoring five minutes after half-time there was only ever going to be one winner. Sheyi Ojo, Conor Goldson and Alfredo Morelos also hit the back of the net as Rangers wrapped up a comprehensive victory and now all they have to do is complete the job back at Ibrox on Thursday night.

And of course, we have to recommend that to happen. Not only did they cruise to a win in Gibraltar last week, they also walloped French top-flight giants Marseille 4-0 in a friendly this past weekend. Steve Gerrard’s men produced a very impressive performance as the swept aside L’OM and the summer optimism that they can really challenge Celtic this season will only be growing with each and every performance.

The Gers look to have made some excellent summer signings that will help them close the gap between the two clubs. Last summer’s transfer dealings appeared to be more about quantity than complete quality as the new boss overhauled a squad that had performed so poorly the previous season, and although he has rung plenty of changes again this summer it is already clear that the overall standard and depth of the squad available to Gerrard has improved dramatically.

Will it be to the point that they can stop Celtic’s dominance of the domestic game? Only time will tell. But before they can turn their focus to domestic matters there is the small matter of trying to make it through to the group stage of the Europa League once again and they are in pole position to move into the next qualifying round thanks to that romp in Gibraltar.

It is not a question of can Rangers win the second leg, more how will they win it? The goals are flowing for right now and with so many players looking sharp in front of goal you are spoiled for choice when it comes to potential goalscorers hitting the back of the net in a Rangers win.

However, for me the bet to take here comes in the handicap – back Rangers -4 to win. St Joseph’s defensive approach to that first leg was helped by the awkward conditions on a plastic pitch that Rangers will certainly have been wary of. There will be no suck concerns at Ibrox – they will have a slicker, faster pitch that will allow them to move the ball a lot quicker and pick apart the visitors’ defence. That should produce plenty of opportunities for Rangers to score and I expect them to take a lot of them. After all, this is a team that have now scored 13 goals in their last three games.
