The start of the 2018/19 Premier League season will prove to be the beginning of the end for several managers, but who will be the first top-flight boss to get his marching orders? The bookmakers have spoken!

The Sack Race, aka Next Premier League Manager To Leave His Post, market remains one of the most popular betting markets in all of football, and it is no surprise considering how trigger-happy some chairmen have become over the past couple of decades.

It feels like more managerial changes are being made in-season than ever before and with the Sack Race market running all year round, there are plenty of opportunities to make a tidy profit when backing managers to move on.

So with the 2018/19 campaign just around the corner, who are the bookies backing to get the boot first?

Ladbrokes has now revealed the answer to that question and, according to this bookmaker, Watford boss Javi Gracia may want to keep his CV up to date in the coming months. The 48-year-old took charge of the Hornets back in January and was able to keep them in the Premier League, but the Vicarage Road board have been pretty ruthless in recent years and with the club being tipped to struggle this season, it is no real shock to see Gracia heading up the market as the 4/1 favourite.

“Watford could be set for a tough season ahead and the betting suggests it's Gracia who'll be the first man sent packing,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told Bettingpro.com.

Mark Hughes was given the boot by Stoke City back in January, only to turn up at Southampton a couple of months later, but the bookmakers believe he could pay the price if Saints make a slow start to 2018/19 and, as a result, he is next up in the betting at 6/1.

Rafael Benitez’s future at Newcastle United was a constant talking point last season and therefore it is no surprise to see him as one of the leading contenders to go first at 8/1, and he is joined on that price by Leicester City manager Claude Puel who received plenty of criticism despite leading the Foxes to a top-half finish.

West Ham United, Everton and Chelsea have all made managerial changes this summer and all three of their new bosses are part of a group of managers all priced up at 16/1. Maurizio Sarri will be under pressure from the start as he tries to keep sack-happy Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich happy, while Manuel Pellegrini and Marco Silva will be expected to deliver results from the off as West Ham and Everton look to perform better than they did in 2017/18.

Unsurprisingly the least likely manager to go first this season is Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who is 50/1 to go from the toast of the blue half of the city to unemployed in the space of a few months.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a 33/1 shot after leading the team to the 2018 Champions League Final, while new Arsenal manager Unai Emery is considered a 25/1 shot in this market as he ushers in a new era at the Emirates Stadium following the summer departure of club legend Arsene Wenger.
