Mexico v Honduras Betting Tips Explained

There is just one semi-final place up for grabs at the 2017 Gold Cup, with Mexico and Honduras battling it out for the right to continue their quest to lift the trophy on July 27.

Mexico are very much at home at this stage of the competition, having continued their record of progressing beyond the group phase in every edition of the Gold Cup since its inception in 1991.

Juan Carlos Osorio’s men finished top of Group C following a 2-0 victory over Curacao thanks to goals from Angel Sepulveda and Edson Alvarez – meaning they have now lost just once after 90 minutes in their last 13 matches.

El Tri’s record against Honduras will also give them confidence ahead of this showdown, having kept clean sheets in each of the last five meetings and losing just once in nine.

The Hondurans can consider themselves very fortunate to be appearing in the quarter-finals for the sixth time in seven attempts, having failed to score in each of their three matches in Group A.

However, they were awarded a 3-0 victory over French Guiana as the debutants were penalised for fielding an ineligible player in former France midfielder Florent Malouda.

As a result, Los Catrachos advanced at the expense of Martinique as one of the best third-placed teams, and will be desperate to make the most of their lifeline.

Nevertheless, now without a win in eight matches, you would have to fancy the Mexicans to remain on course for back-to-back titles.

Therefore, it is worth not just a victory for El Tri, but one while also keeping a clean sheet against their confidence-lacking opponents.

Mexico v Honduras Stats

  • Honduras are now without a win in each of their last eight games
  • Los Catrachos are making their sixth quarter-final appearance in seven attempts
  • They have failed to score so far at the 2017 Gold Cup
