Marítimo v Benfica live stream & tips - Eagles to edge closer to title glory

  • Benfica on course for league and cup double
  • Eagles on 10 game winning streak in Primeira Liga
  • Sunday's clash a warm up for Taca da Liga final

Benfica will look to edge closer to their third Primeira Liga title in a row when they visit mid-table Marítimo on Sunday night.

Marítimo v Benfica kicks off at 2030 BST on Sunday, May 8. Watch & bet on live streaming football at bet365 > sports > live streaming football

The Eagles go into the penultimate round of fixtures in the Portuguese league campaign with a two point advantage over title rivals Sporting Club and with their vastly superior goal difference, knowing four points from their final two games of the season will secure a record 35th championship success.

Benfica stayed on course to retain their league crown with a narrow 1-0 win over Vitória Guimarães last weekend thanks to defender Jardel's 47th minute strike.

Fellow defensive stalwart Andre Almeida also made a vital contribution for the Eagles as he cleared a Paolo Hurtado shot off the line midway through the second half, although that was soured somewhat by his sending off in stoppage time.

"It was a difficult and hard-fought match," said Benfica coach Rui Vitoria after the game.

"We had to undo the web that they spun and we had some difficulties in the first half."

Vitoria's men followed that vital win up with a 2-1 victory in the semi-finals of the Taca da Liga over Sporting Braga on Monday night, to remain in the hunt for a league and cup double.

Benfica were a goal down at half time in that contest but fought back with goals from Jonas and Raul Jimenez in the second period to book their place in the final and will play Sunday's opponents Maritimo in the decider on May 20.

Maritimo, meanwhile, have lost three of their last four outings in the league including a 2-1 defeat at Estoril last weekend. That sequence of results has left them down in 12th in the standings, well off the European pace but also safe from the relegation battle.
