Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Betting Tips Explained

For these two clubs the FA Cup represents their last shot at lifting silverware this season, but will Manchester United be heading back to Wembley Stadium for next month’s final or can Tottenham Hotspur secure one more appearance at their temporary home before they move into their new stadium next season?

United have made smooth progress to the final four thanks to a largely favourable draw that has seen them beat Derby County, Yeovil Town, Huddersfield Town and Brighton & Hove Albion without conceding a single goal. Their form has been decent over the past couple of months too, despite the embarrassing home defeat to West Bromwich Albion and the Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla, but that has not stopped the pressure from heaping up on manager Jose Mourinho.

United’s style of play has received much criticism from the stands and in the media, and while an FA Cup Final victory would not completely silence the chatter, it would at least lessen the volume a little heading into the summer. But of all the semi-final draws they could have been handed, this may be the toughest.

Tottenham have made hard work of their passage to the semi-finals, needing home replays to finally see off lower league opposition in the form of Newport County and Rochdale, but they had no such issues with Swansea City in the quarter-finals and they do go into this match in good form despite the recent losses to Juventus and Manchester City.

That loss to Juve ended their Champions League dream for another season, but had it not been for a naïve five minutes in the second leg of that last-16 tie Spurs would have dumped out the Italian giants, and that really does tell you where Mauricio Pochettino’s side are right now. This season alone they have beaten the likes of Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Arsenal, and a second win over Manchester United in Saturday’s FA Cup Final will only serve to strengthen the belief that they are becoming one of the elite teams in European football.

Spurs ran out 2-0 winners when they hosted United in the Premier League at the end of January, catching them cold with a couple of goals inside the opening half an hour, and with their Wembley hoodoo now seemingly dead and buried thanks to strong form at the national stadium this season, I am backing Pochettino’s boys to get the job done in 90 minutes and set up an FA Cup Final showdown with either Chelsea or Southampton.

I am also backing Harry Kane to play a goal-scoring role. The goals have not exactly been flowing for the Spurs striker in recent weeks – so much so that he had to poach one off Christian Eriksen via an appeal – but he has proved to be the man for the big occasion and he has repeatedly come up trumps when Tottenham have needed him the most. Kane has been consistently finding the back of the net in this competition too – he has four goals already this season – so I am backing the England man to once again deliver for his club on Saturday evening.
