Manchester United v Newcastle United Betting Tips Explained

Manchester United lost further ground on Manchester City in the Premier League title race as they were beaten 1-0 at Chelsea a fortnight ago. The Red Devils have really come unstuck at home over the past month or so, losing to the Blues and Huddersfield Town while drawing at Liverpool, so they will be relieved that their latest outing will be at Old Trafford as they look to get their title challenge back on track.

And one man looking to kick-start his own campaign is summer signing Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian forward could not stop scoring during the first two months of the season, but the goals have dried up and the “missing” milk carton memes have been popping up online over the past month, with Lukaku now having gone goalless in his last seven appearances for the Red Devils. Lukaku did end his drought by scoring a double for the national team against Mexico last Friday night, and United boss Mourinho will be hoping his striker can replicate that on the club scene on Saturday evening.

The opposition are a Newcastle United side who have are once again struggling for form after a brief flurry of three straight wins in late August to mid-September. The Magpies have now won only one of their last six games – against rock-bottom Crystal Palace – and during this poor run of form they have collected a paltry five points to leave slip into the bottom half of the table. They go into this match on the back of 1-0 defeats to Burnley and Bournemouth, so they will be desperate to take something from this trip to Old Trafford.

However, I do not see them even scoring, let alone taking something from this match. Manchester United have endured a couple of disappointing results recently – but both of them came away from home. Mourinho’s men boast a flawless record at Old Trafford this season, winning all five of their games so far, and making their record even more impressive is the fact they have not conceded a single goal in front of the home fans – out-scoring the opposition 15-0. Newcastle, meanwhile, have struggled for points and goals on their travels, so a win and a clean sheet for the home team appears highly likely here.

A low-scoring affair also appears to be on the cards here. Manchester United could not stop rattling in the goals during the first few months of the season, but as Lukaku’s goals have dried up so have the team’s. They have not scored more than two goals in their last seven fixtures and Newcastle have not been leaking massive amounts of goals on their travels – they are averaging just one goal conceded per game away from St James’ Park – so Under 2.5 Total Goals looks to be a very solid bet.
