Manchester United open up at 3/1 on Smarkets Exchange for Manchester derby

Neil Roarty 3 Dec 2017

Manchester United will be without Paul Pogba for next week's Manchester derby and that has led to punters on the Smarkets Betting Exchange making the Red Devils odds of 3/1 to beat Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Manchester United could well start a Premier League match at their biggest ever price next weekend with Smarkets Exchange punters opening up the market on a Red Devils win over Manchester City at a massive 3/1.

United beat Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday but the layers were obviously less than impressed with Jose Mourinho's men's display and even more worried by the red card for Paul Pogba, which will rule the Frenchman out of Sunday's Manchester derby. City have been installed at odds of 10/11 and they may well prove popular even at that short price, especially after coming from behind to beat West Ham on Sunday.

There was an irony in Pogba picking up a suspension, after the midfielder courted controversy by telling the BBC that he hoped that City picked up a few injuries which could cause them to "slip up" in the Premier League title race. As it is, it is the Frenchman who will be absent for the first Manchester derby of the season and that is driving up United's odds of victory.

City won at Old Trafford last season and another victory this weekend would, even at this early stage of the season, put them almost out of sight in the title race. Pep Guardiola's men are currently eight points ahead of United and an eleven point gap would appear insurmountable.
