Liverpool v Manchester United Betting Tips Explained

The first few months of the season could not have gone much better for Manchester United, who are unbeaten after 10 competitive fixtures and have won nine of them, with the only blot on their copy book being a 2-2 draw at Stoke City. Summer signing Romelu Lukaku has already started paying back some of his massive fee by finding the back of the net on a regular basis, and Jose Mourinho’s men have now out-scored their opposition 32-5. They went into the international breaking having put four goals past four of their last five opponents, so confidence in the camp is sky high.

The same cannot be said for their hosts on Saturday, Liverpool. Manager Jurgen Klopp found himself under increasing pressure going into the international break, with his side having won just one of their last seven competitive fixtures since the 4-0 humiliation of Arsenal on August 27 – which was the last time the Reds have won at Anfield. And if things could not get any worse, they have now lost one of their key men – Sadio Mane – to a hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined for around six weeks.

So can Liverpool give themselves a major shot in the arm by beating the fierce rivals at lunchtime on Saturday, or will Manchester United add to their hosts’ struggles by leaving with all three points? These two teams have played out draws in each of their last three meetings but, just like Mourinho said this week, his Manchester United side are vastly improved from the teams that have failed to beat Liverpool on those occasions.

“I think we are a better team [than we were],” he told Sky Sports. “You can say, like some people do, we have not played one of the top five teams but last season we did not beat West Ham at home, last season we did not beat Everton at home or Southampton away. Globally we are a better team, does that mean we are going to be as successful as last season, winning two titles? I don't know. But we are better.”

I completely agree with Mourinho because his comments can be backed up with stats. They are scoring, on average, at least three goals per game and defensively they are only conceding every other game, having kept clean sheets in seven of their 10 competitive fixtures while conceding just five goals. Romelu Lukaku has been in fantastic form up front and Nemanja Matic has been rock-solid in front of that strong United defence, so the recipe is there for a highly-successful season. It is certainly there for them to claim all three points on Merseyside on Saturday.

And of course, I have to recommend backing Lukaku to add to his goal haul at Anfield. The former Everton striker has been in blistering form since the start of the season, scoring seven goals in seven Premier League appearances for his new employers while netting 15 times in his last 13 appearances for club and country. Therefore it is rather surprising that Lukaku is not odds-on in the anytime goalscorer market for this one, so I recommen taking on the bookies by backing the United hitman to strike again at Anfield.
