Liverpool v Everton Betting Tips Explained

Liverpool could not go into the Merseyside Derby in much better shape. The Reds are unbeaten in their last nine competitive fixtures and the goals have been flowing, with Jurgen Klopp’s side netting 32 times during this sequence to average over three goals per game. Seven of those goals came in midweek as they booked their place in the Champions League last-16 with a 7-0 demolition of CSKA Moscow at Anfield – making it the second time they have scored seven goals in a group match this season. So to say they will be brimming with confidence for the derby would be an understatement.

There is an air of positivity surrounding Everton too though – the Toffees have recorded back-to-back victories since the announcement that Sam Allardyce would take the reins at Goodison Park. ‘Big Sam’ watched his new side romp to a 4-0 victory over West Ham United just hours after news of his appointment broke, and when he took to the home dugout for the first time last weekend he master-minded a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Allardyce will now aim to make it three Premier League games without loss when he makes his Merseyside Derby debut on Sunday, but will he be successful? He certainly made the right move in midweek by sending a weakened squad to Cyprus for the Europa League ‘dead rubber’ against Apollon Limassol, keeping key players fresh for this meeting with Liverpool, but it is hard to see them leaving Anfield with anything to show for their efforts.

That disappointing run of form in September/October is firmly in Liverpool’s rear-view mirror right now and after three emphatic victories they will be relishing this meeting with their neighbours. The Reds have dropped a few points at home this season, but they are unbeaten at Anfield and Everton are yet to win a Premier League match on their travels this season. And if you want to look at recent history, Liverpool have won each of the last three Merseyside Derbies and are unbeaten in their last 14 meetings with the Toffees, meaning Klopp has never tasted defeat at the hands of Everton. I do not see that statistic changing here.

Liverpool should take the three points and the bragging rights on Sunday, and while the Match Betting odds are not great there are a couple of ways to back the Reds. The most appealing one is backing them to win a match which produces at least four goals. This has been a winning bet for two of the last three derbies, while Over 3.5 Total Goals has been a winner in four of Liverpool’s last six matches and four of Everton’s last five Premier League outings. This match has all the makings of turning into a goalfest, so backing Liverpool to a win a high-scoring clash appears to be the way to go.

Of course, the goalscorer markets also throw up some tempting options for this one – none more tempting than backing Mohamed Salah to score anytime. The Egyptian striker is proving to be one of the best buys of the summer – his midweek goal in the Champions League means he has now scored 18 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season, and with 12 of them have come in his last 11 appearances it would be a surprise if he DIDN’T find the back of the net in his derby debut.
