Ligue 1 predictions and betting tips: Best bets for Wednesday

The 2017-18 Ligue 1 season has reached its 15th round of matches with a midweek program on November 28-29, and we have picked out the best bet available on each of Wednesday’s seven games.

All matches kick off at 18:00 GMT except Paris Saint-Germain vs Troyes (20:00 GMT)

Rennes/Draw double chance away to Angers @ 31/40 with SportingBet

The bookmakers fancy the chances of Angers to gain their first home league win of the season here, but we disagree because Rennes are on a great run of form with five victories in their last six games and look capable of gaining a point at least.

Wahbi Khazri, who is on loan from Sunderland, is again showing what a capable operator he is in Ligue 1 and along with Adrien Hunou he is capable of posing plenty of problems for the Angers defence.

Neither of these teams has been in brilliant form recently, but Montpellier stopped the rot with a 3-0 win at home to Lille on Saturday which should give them the confidence to get something on their visit to Guingamp.

The home side have not won any of their last six matches but they are fairly solid at the back and that should give them a chance of avoiding a second defeat on their own pitch this season.

Not a huge amount of value to be had on this game with Lyon such hot favourites due to a big disparity in the teams’ respective form, but there are rarely many goals when these clubs meet and that may well be the case again.

Second-placed Lyon have admittedly won three of their last seven matches by a 5-0 scoreline, but they have also been absolutely watertight at the back having kept nine consecutive clean sheets and Lille are expected to have little joy in attempting to end that impressive record.

Metz are tailed off at the bottom of the table and have lost all seven of their home games, so fourth-placed Marseille are not expected to have much difficulty in continuing their push for Champions League football next season.

L'OM are unbeaten domestically since mid-September and although they have been more convincing on home soil, their opponents' form has been so poor, especially when it comes to scoring goals, that they look highly likely to be ahead at the end of both halves.

Nantes v Monaco – Away win @ 11/10 with BetStars

Claudio Ranieri had been doing a good job with Nantes until four defeats in their last five games so while Monaco are not the force of last season after their big summer squad overhaul, the team from Monte Carlo are fancied to improve upon recent results here.

It could almost prove to be a blessing in disguise that Leonardo Jardim's side are now out of Europe because it means they can focus solely on getting things right in their domestic league, and their greater quality is expected to come to the fore with Ranieri's men having gone right off the boil.

Nice have slumped alarmingly from last season’s excellent campaign when they reached the Champions League qualifiers, but can respond to their 5-0 drubbing against Lyon by beating a Toulouse side who are struggling badly to score goals at home.

Toulouse have bagged just a solitary goal across the last four league matches they have hosted and although Nice are not exactly free-scoring themselves, they nevertheless possess the quality in their squad with the likes of Mario Balotelli and Wesley Sneijder to leapfrog their opponents by claiming three points.

Paris Saint-Germain v Troyes – Home win and both teams to score @ 17/10 with BetStars

PSG enjoyed a 9-0 victory when these clubs last met, but this time there could be a consolation goal for the visitors who have won two of their last three matches 3-0.

It would be a huge surprise if this match ended in anything but victory for the team who are nine points clear at the top of the table, but while PSG have a 100% home record in all competitions they conceded in their last two Parc des Princes games against Nantes and Celtic and that enhances the appeal of the odds for Troyes to score.
