The 2017-18 Ligue 1 season has reached its 22nd round of matches on the weekend of January 19-21 and we have picked out the best bet available on each of Sunday’s three games.

Nice vs St Etienne – Home win to nil @ 17/10 with BetVictor (14:00 GMT kick-off)

Nice’s form has picked up considerably over the last couple of months and they are now looking more like the team that reached the Champions League qualifiers this season, with another win looking set to come their way against St Etienne.

Up into the top six of the Ligue 1 table following a run of only one defeat in their last 10 matches in this competition, Nice very nearly pulled off an excellent victory away to Monaco in midweek but were thwarted by a late Radamel Falcao equaliser.

Nevertheless, that result should only further boost the confidence of Lucien Favre’s side and they are fancied to claim three points and keep a clean sheet against a St Etienne team who were beaten 3-0 away to bottom club Metz on Wednesday.

Metz +2 on the handicap away to Monaco @ 19/20 with betway (16:00 GMT)

Metz are having a remarkable season – they lost 14 of their first 17 league games but have now taken 10 points from the last 12, which has given them a fighting chance of avoiding relegation if they can sustain anything like their current form.

This will be a very difficult task away to the reigning champions, but Monaco’s excellent spell has stalled with back-to-back draws against Montpellier and Nice and so Fred Hantz’s side will be confident of giving them a game.

We are not necessarily saying Metz will avoid defeat here, but they look worth backing with a two-goal start to, at the very worst, go down narrowly for they have acquired a real goal threat of late with former Newcastle United striker Emmanuel Riviere in particularly good scoring form.

Lyon vs Paris Saint-Germain – Away win and both teams to score @ 7/5 with BetStars (20:00 GMT)

This is far and away the biggest match of the weekend in France as second hosts first, albeit PSG have 11 points to spare at the top of the table over their closest pursuers Lyon.

PSG are on an eight-game winning streak and put the same number of goals past Dijon on Wednesday, with Neymar scoring four, although Lyon are also in good form and their 2-0 defeat at the Parc des Princes in September was one of only two they have suffered in Ligue 1 this term.

Scoring goals is Lyon’s strength and so they may well find a way past Alphonse Areola, but ultimately it is hard to see how they will stop Unai Emery’s superstars from claiming another victory that takes them a step closer to regaining the title.
