Ligue 1 predictions for the weekend of April 20-21. Will Paris St Germain bounce back from their humiliating 5-1 loss at the hands of Lille when they host Monaco? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

Nice v Caen (Saturday 19:00 BST)

Nice may be down in eighth place in the table, but they are only five points off the top four heading into this latest round of fixtures so they are by no means out of the race to qualify for Europe. They have aided their cause in recent weeks by taking eight points from their last four games, but with some tough matches coming up the pressure is on them to deliver victories in the more ‘winnable’ games. One of those ‘winnable’ matches takes place on Saturday night when they welcome rock-bottom Caen to the Allianz Riviera. The visitors have their battle against the drop a boost when they got the better of Monaco late last month, but they failed to build on only their fourth win of the season and they now head to Nice having lost 10 of their last 13 games in the top tier, winning only once. The second tier is clearly calling Caen at this time and I expect Nice to help them on their way by winning Saturday’s meeting between the two clubs. The hosts have not been conceding many lately either, so a clean sheet could be the icing on the cake for Patrick Vieira’s side.

Toulouse v Lille (Sunday 14:00 BST)

Just over a year ago Lille were surviving by the skin of their teeth, finishing just one point and one place clear of the bottom three, so to say this season has been an incredible turnaround would be an understatement of epic proportions. Christophe Gaultier’s side are on the brink of a second-place finish in France’s top flight and if that was not enough they recorded one of the biggest results in their history last time out. Lille stormed to a 5-1 success against a Paris St Germain side that have dominated French football in recent years, so they will go into Sunday’s trip to Toulouse brimming with confidence. But will they be brought back down to Earth or can they make it back-to-back wins in Ligue 1? Toulouse have not lost many at home in recent months, but Lille’s away form since early December has been excellent so they will really fancy their chances here. And if three points was not incentive enough they will have an opportunity to avenge the 3-2 defeat they suffered when these two teams met at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy back in December. I expect Lille to take their opportunity, get their revenge and leave with all three points in the bag.

Paris St Germain v Monaco (Sunday 20:00 BST)

Paris St Germain are making hard work of clinching the Ligue 1 title. They have been out of sight at the summit for almost all of the campaign, but they have been having a real problem getting over the line in recent weeks, failing to take any of their last three chances to wrap things up. A 2-2 draw at home to Strasbourg was followed up by a 5-1 thrashing at Lille and a 3-2 loss at Nantes, delaying their title celebrations, and while nobody is expecting some sort of epic collapse that hands Lille an opportunity to snatch the title from under their noses, everybody associated with PSG will be eager to get the job done as quickly as possible. They will have another opportunity on Sunday when Monaco pay a visit to the Parc des Princes. The visitors have been unable to maintain that strong run of form in February that saw them pull away from the relegation zone, but they have now lost only one of their last 10 and perhaps they will fancy their chances of snatching something against a Paris St Germain side that are suddenly stumbling. Only a fool would bet against PSG right now though – this is not some sort of crisis. This is the only real dip that they have experienced this season and there is a good chance they will drag themselves out of it here. PSG have been borderline flawless at home this season, going unbeaten and collecting 46 points from a possible 48 at the Parc des Princes, and win number 16 on Sunday will see them crowned champions. I also expect Kylian Mbappe to play a scoring role. He may not have netted in his last two appearances, but he had scored 13 times in his previous 13 appearances for PSG and he has now bagged 27 goals in 26 Ligue 1 outings this season. That makes him a leading candidate to score in a victory for the league leaders.
