Leicester City v Sheffield United Betting Tips Explained

These two teams are no strangers to each other having already met in the League Cup this season. An Islam Slimani brace in the second half was sandwiched by goals from Demarai Gray and Ahmed Musa as Leicester City romped to a 4-1 victory at Bramall Lane, and they would obviously welcome a repeat of that when the two teams lock horns in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Friday night. So will the Foxes do the double over Sheffield United, or will the Blades get their revenge?

Leicester’s winless run in the Premier League reached three games as they were walloped 5-1 at Manchester City last weekend, but they are not the first team to be hammered by the league leaders this season and they will not be the last. They will want to rediscover that winning touch though, and a meeting with a team from a lower division has to be considered the perfect opportunity. The Foxes did make a meal of their third-round clash with Fleetwood Town, needing a home replay to see off Jamie Vardy’s old side, but they made much more straightforward work of Peterborough United in the previous round, winning 5-1, and they will be eyeing another routine victory on Friday night.

Sheffield United will not make life easy for them though. The Blades are knocking on the door to the play-off places in the Championship and they will go into this match in buoyant mood following the derby win over Leeds United at the weekend. However, they have now lost two of their last three matches in the second tier and those defeats came against the top two – Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. That does not bode well for a meeting with a top-flight team and neither does a shaky away record that has seen them taste defeat seven times on their travels. United will not be a walkover for Leicester here, but you have to like the Foxes chances of beating them again.

The match odds are decent enough for a Premier League side taking on a Championship outfit, but I am confident about the Foxes delivering a win here so I am looking for a bigger price, and for me the best option is backing them to win a match that sees at least three goals. Of course the League Cup meeting produced five goals, but if you look beyond that 11 of Leicester’s last 16 competitive fixtures have produced Over 2.5 Total Goals and it has been a winner in eight of United’s last 12 away games. It could be a winner here too as the Foxes advance to the quarter-finals.

And speaking of goals, I also recommend backing Jamie Vardy to find the back of the net. The England striker has already equalled his Premier League goal haul for last season and a big reason is that he has rediscovered his finishing touch over the past couple of months. Vardy has netted in each of his last three appearances, scoring four times in his last five outings, and there is no reason to think he cannot get on the scoresheet again against Sheffield United.
