League One predictions for the midweek fixtures on Tuesday October 2. Can Peterborough United make it six wins out of six away from home against pre-season title favourites Sunderland? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

All matches kick off at 19:45 BST.

Barnsley vs Plymouth Argyle

Where better to start than with the favourites for the League One title, Barnsley, who still have a game in hand on their rivals towards the top of the table and return to Oakwell having enjoyed an excellent 3-1 victory at Fleetwood on Saturday.

Plymouth are enduring a poor season so far and manager Derek Adams has blamed long coach journeys from Devon for his team’s miserable away record. But the Pilgrims have upped their goalscoring output in their last couple of games after a barren spell and are fancied to bag a consolation at least.

Last Tuesday, Burton Albion achieved an excellent Carabao Cup victory at home to Premier League club Burnley that earned them a last-16 tie against Nottingham Forest, but their good record at the Pirelli Stadium could take a dent when they host Southend.

The Shrimpers have recorded back-to-back successes against Fleetwood and Wycombe and with former Republic of Ireland striker Simon Cox back among the goals having netted in both of those games, Chris Powell’s side look good value to make it three in a row.

Fleetwood Town vs Wycombe Wanderers

Value is the watchword here too because Wycombe have collected more points on the road than they have at home so far this season and are scoring enough goals to create plenty of problems for Fleetwood.

After a promising start to the campaign, Joey Barton’s side have gone right off the boil with five winless games and look too short here at best odds of 13/10 which means the Wanderers appeal much more.

Rochdale vs Bristol Rovers

After two tough examinations against promotion hopefuls Sunderland and Portsmouth, Rochdale should find this a much less formidable assignment and can return to winning ways.

Immediately before those two defeats, Dale put three goals without reply past Gillingham at Spotland and are fancied strongly here with Rovers having scored only twice in their last four away games.

Sunderland vs Peterborough United

Finally, the highlight of Tuesday’s League One program and Peterborough take a 100% record on their travels to the Stadium of Light to face a Sunderland side unbeaten on their own pitch.

The Black Cats are still not a completely reliable conveyance as they rebuild following their consecutive relegations, but they were emphatic 4-1 winners against Rochdale in their latest Wearside fixture and will fancy their chances of breaching a Posh defence that has conceded 11 goals in their last five games.
