Athletic Club v Sevilla (12:00 BST)

With three defeats in their last four La Liga outings Athletic Club are badly in need of a win on Saturday afternoon at San Mames Barria but are up against an in-form Sevilla outfit who've won four of their last five and head into Matchday 8 sitting second in the table, five points adrift of leaders FC Barcelona. Bilbao lost 3-2 to Valencia at Mestalla last time out to fall into the bottom half of the table where they sit in 13th on eight points, just two above the drop zone. It has been a disappointing spell of form for the Basques after they began the new season with back-to-back wins. To add to their woes, winger Iker Muniain faces a long spell on the treatment room after sustaining a serious knee injury in Bilbao's 1-0 Europa League defeat to Zorya at the end of last month.

Sevilla's solitary loss this season came at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital and whilst they haven't been as free scoring as their rivals in the top six of the Primera Division with just nine goals to their name, having conceded just three times in the league this term, they boast one of the best defensive records in the league. And we expect them to go to the Basque Country and secure a sixth clean sheet of the campaign.

Getafe v Real Madrid (15:15 BST)

Defending champions Real Madrid have made an uncharacteristic slow start to this season's league campaign and after seven rounds of fixtures are surprisingly seven points adrift of leaders FC Barcelona and down in fifth in the standings. A surprise defeat to Real Betis on Matchday 5 - their first loss to Betis at the Bernabeu in 19 years - ended Madrid's 73-game scoring sequence but they bounced back with wins over Alaves (1-2) and Espanyol (2-0), and are expected to make it three wins on the bounce against their city rivals. Madrid have scored 16 goals in their last three meetings with Getafe, winning 1-5, 4-1 and 7-3 and despite Los Blancos' poor start to the league season (by their lofty standards) Real Madrid -1 makes plenty of appeal.

Deportivo Alaves v Real Sociedad (17:30 BST)

Real Sociedad will look to stop the rot when they visit last season's Copa del Rey finalists Deportivo Alaves on Saturday evening. Sociedad came flying out of the blocks at the start of the campaign, winning three straight before the wheels came off and the Basque side suffered three defeats on the trot. La Real secured a thrilling 4-4 draw with Real Betis in their last fixture before the international break and with 16 goals conceded in their last five outings in all competitions will be determined to shore up their leaky defence at Alaves. The hosts registered their first win of the campaign away to Levante prior to the World Cup qualifiers and after suffering six straight defeats in the league it was a welcome one. We can't see them adding to that here though and will back Sociedad for the win.

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona (19:45 BST)

FC Barcelona have made a perfect start to their 2017/18 La Liga campaign with seven wins from seven handing them a five point advantage over second placed Sevilla and seven point lead over bitter Clasico rivals Real Madrid. Saturday night sees them face their first major test of the season, however, as they tackle unbeaten Atletico in Madrid. Los Indios are notoriously difficult to get the better of and it's not in the least bit surprising to learn that Diego Simeone's men allowed fewer shots on goal than any other club in Europe last season. They've won four and drawn three of their league fixtures to date and have conceded just four goals in the process. A 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League is the only blot on their copybook and we're backing them to be the first side to take points from Barca this season.
