Juventus v Lazio Betting Tips Explained

Juventus will not be wrapping up another domestic double on Wednesday night, thanks to the efforts of Roma on Sunday. ‘The Old Lady’ went into the match knowing that a win would wrap up a sixth straight Italian title but crashed to a 3-1 defeat. That loss has merely delayed the inevitable though, with Juventus four points clear with two games remaining, and the big question is just how successful will this season be for Massimiliano Allegri’s side?

Of course, there is a Champions League Final showdown with Real Madrid on the horizon, but before then they have an opportunity to move even closer to another historic achievement when they take on Lazio in the Coppa Italia Final. ‘The Old Lady’ became the first team to ever complete back-to-back domestic doubles when they won the league and cup in each of the past two seasons, and they are now aiming to become the first team to do the Serie A/Coppa Italia double in three straight seasons.

Standing in their way are a Lazio side that have not lifted a major piece of silverware since winning the Coppa Italia in 2012/13. They have missed out on a top-three finish in Serie A after dropping points at crucial times in March and April, so they will be eager to at least ensure this season finishes with a trophy by winning Wednesday’s Final.

Lazio have already beaten Inter Milan and Roma en route to the final, but Juventus are the undisputed kings of the Italian game after winning the championship in each of the past five seasons and you have to back them to maintain their dominance by winning the Coppa Italia Final. They have beaten the Rome-based club twice in the league this season and they should make it a hat-trick of victories by winning this final in 90 minutes.

And if you want to give yourself a comfort blanket, the bookies are offering backable odds on Juventus ‘to lift the trophy’ which means extra-time and penalties will also count.

My other recommendation is backing Gonzalo Higuain to find the back of the net for Juventus. The Uruguayan angered Napoli supporters when he defected to ‘The Old Lady’ last summer, but he has certainly proved to be worth every penny Juventus paid because he has now rattled in 32 competitive goals in his maiden season with the club. Higuain can take that tally to 33 by finding the back of the net in Wednesday night’s final.

Juventus v Lazio Stats

  • Juventus beat Lazio in both of their Serie A meetings this season
  • Juventus have won each of their last six competitive games against Lazio, keeping a clean sheet in each of them
  • Juventus are unbeaten in their last 13 games against Lazio, winning 11 of them
  • Lazio have not beaten Juventus since January 2013 – their only win over ‘The Old Lady’ in their last 23 meetings
  • Lazio have not scored against Juventus in two years
  • Juventus became the first club to win back-to-back domestic doubles when they won Serie A and the Coppa Italia last season
