Mata to become a Magpie? Bookies tip Newcastle to swoop for Man Utd veteran

Juan Mata and Sean Longstaff are set to trade places this summer, according to bookmaker SportNation.Bet.

Manchester United are now just 6/4 to complete a summer swoop for Newcastle United starlet Sean Longstaff, and the bookmaker believes that may not be the only switch involving the Red Devils and the Magpies this summer.

Mata, whose five year spell at Manchester United is set to come to a close at the end of June, is now priced at 9/2 for a reunion with Rafael Benitez, his former boss at Chelsea, on a free transfer.

Having not yet signed a new contract with the Red Devils and having dropped down the pecking order, the 31-year-old Spaniard has also been heavily tipped to return to his native Spain, with Barcelona the favourites to sign the midfielder at 3/1.

However, it is second favourites Newcastle that are now planning to offer him the chance to remain in the Premier League, and SportNation.Bet believes he could accept it.

The World Cup winner has also been linked to his former club Valencia (9/2), where he spent four years, with Everton (11/2) and Wolves (10/1) the other English clubs that could look to tempt Mata to stay in the Premier League.

“Failing to secure a regular first team spot, Juan Mata's time at United looks all but over,” a SportNation.Bet spokesperson told Bettingpro.com.

“The odds suggest that despite a move to Spain being more favourable, Newcastle can't be ruled out of the running. If Benitez stays as Magpies' boss then the Spanish and Chelsea connection could well make this move happen.”
