Who gets the boot first, Jose Mourinho or Theresa May?

Jose Mourinho and Theresa May are tied in the betting over who’ll leave their job first, with the under-fire Manchester United manager and Prime Minister both 10/11 with 888sport.

Both Mourinho and May have suffered a challenging few months, with United slipping to eighth in the Premier League table, and May struggling to get her Brexit deal through Parliament, losing three key votes in the House of Commons on Tuesday – meaning both are battling to hold onto their jobs.

Mourinho is currently just 5/4 to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked after a string of poor results has seen the side sitting 18 points behind Manchester City at the summit, while they are eight behind the top four.

Mourinho has reportedly had fall outs with some key players which, in combination with their poor form, has seen Mourinho supposedly clinging to his job by his fingernails.

May is facing a similarly precarious position, with her Brexit deal seemingly doomed to failure.

888sport make her deal just 1/9 to be rejected by Parliament, and with support amongst her party dwindling, she too could be out – with 888sport making it 9/4 that the beleaguered Prime Minister is removed in 2018.

888sport cant pick between whether Mourinho will be given the boot at Old Trafford first, or if May will be looking for new residence after being shunted from Downing Street before the Portuguese is fired. Positively for Mourinho in this battle is the fact that United have already secured their place in Europe for the knock-out stages, which is a contrast to May, with Europe something that will likely cost her her job.

“It’s difficult to think of two people with less job security right now than Jose Mourinho and Theresa May – and both could be removed from their positions within the next couple of weeks. However, while nobody seems to want the poisoned chalice of becoming Prime Minister at this crucial point during the Brexit negotiations, there’ll be no shortage of managers who fancy the United job – which could prove fatal for Mourinho,” an 888sport spokesman told Bettingpro.

“Theresa and Jose may have more in common than might seem – they’ve both struggled to reign in key dissenters in their ranks, as well as having issues with their right-wing. While a job swap may seem out of the question, May could do worse than ask Mourinho about United’s Champions League defeat to Sevilla last season for a masterclass on how to leave Europe with the minimum of fuss.”
