Huddersfield Town v Chelsea Betting Tips Explained

Chelsea’s defence of the Premier League title is all but over after another miserable defeat that has piled pressure on manager Antonio Conte. Having already lost at home to Burnley and at Crystal Palace so far this season, the Blues suffered another humiliating result this past weekend as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to a West Ham United side that had gone into the match on an eight-game winless run, and afterwards Conte conceded there is almost no chance of back-to-back titles for Chelsea.

“If you want to stay in the race you need continuity in results,” he told reporters. “This is not our case. If you lose four games in 16 you're not in the race. When you lose against Palace, when they are bottom of the table, and lose again against West Ham when they are in a bad position - if you lose points in these games, you are not in the title race. You have to change. We have to do our best this season, but this season I said it would be very difficult. This is the truth.”

Conte also had a moan about the schedule his side are facing thanks to the string of midweek matches they have been facing during the first few months of the season, so he will not be happy that his side now have to make the trip up to Yorkshire to face Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers have made a solid start to life in the top flight by taking 18 points from their first 16 games, with three of them coming in the weekend win over fellow Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion. The Terriers halted a run of four straight defeats with that 2-0 success against the Seagulls and they will fancy their chances of springing an upset by taking something from this meeting with Chelsea. After all, they have already beaten Manchester United and almost claimed a point from the meeting with Manchester City at the John Smith’s Stadium so far this season. Chelsea, meanwhile, have already been beaten on visits to Palace and West Ham.

I would not be shocked to see Huddersfield take something from this match, but I am not fully convinced that they can repeat that shock win over Manchester United. Chelsea’s recent form has been pretty good despite that loss to West Ham, with six wins coming in their last eight games, and despite a couple of upset defeats they do boast one of the best award records in the top tier. Therefore the Huddersfield-Draw Double Chance is the best option if, like me, you do fancy an upset.

My other recommendation is backing Under 2.5 Total Goals. With the exception of the heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Huddersfield have been able to keep games close at home this season with only two clubs – Spurs and Manchester City – scoring multiple goals in a match at the John Smith’s Stadium. Meanwhile, five of Chelsea’s last seven games in the Premier League have seen Under 2.5 Total Goals, so that is a tempting bet for this one.
