Germany v France Betting Tips Explained

World champions Germany already know they will be playing in next summer’s World Cup, having completed a flawless qualifying group campaign that saw them in wall 10 of their games and out-scored the opposition 43-3. And that successful campaign is just a part of an outstanding unbeaten run that has seen them avoid defeat in their last 20 international fixtures, winning 16 of them. The last team to beat them? Tuesday night’s opponents France.

These two nations last went head-to-head in the semi-finals of the 2016 European Championship and it was France – the host nation – who booked their place in the final. Antonio Griezmann struck in each half as Les Bleus ran out 2-0 winners, but ultimately there would be disappointment at the Euros as they lost to Portugal in the final.

France have suffered another couple of defeats since that loss to the Portuguese, but on the whole their form over the past 18 months has been strong and they too know that they will be heading to Russia next summer after finishing top of their World Cup qualifying group. There were a few hiccups along the way – most notably a loss to Sweden and home draw with Luxembourg – but they are unbeaten in their last six matches, winning five of them, and I expect them to extend that run here.

However, France will not make it seven games without loss by beating Germany. The world champions were unable to beat an inexperienced England team last Friday night, but they are a side that have not tasted defeat for quite some time and they will be keen to keep their unbeaten run going into next summer’s World Cup. They are capable of doing just that, but they will keep this sequence going by drawing this match. Three of their last four friendly matches have ended in draws and they have now won just six of their last 17 matches outside of qualifying and major international tournaments. A typical end-of-year friendly stalemate is on the cards.

Both teams should give their supporters something to cheer by finding the back of the net. There has been a goal in 22 of Germany’s last 24 international fixtures while France have seen just three goalless draws in their last 20 outings. Two of Germany’s last three stalemates have also seen both teams score and France clearly have the firepower to find a way through their host’s defence. However, Germany have hardly wanted for goals over the past year despite the 0-0 draw at Wembley last Friday night, so they too should get on the scoresheet here.
