The Maurizio Sarri reign has gone sour, but just how much longer will the Chelsea manager stick around at Stamford Bridge?

Sarri has been made the odds-on favourite to be the next Premier League boss to lose his job in the wake of Sunday’s 6-0 humiliating defeat at Manchester City, which came less than two weeks after a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Bournemouth, but bookmaker Betway believes he may well last at least a couple more weeks in the role.

Chelsea are due to face Manchester City in the League Cup Final on Sunday February 24 and the bookie is just 2/5 that Sarri is still holding the reins when his team try to win the first piece of domestic silverware on offer this season, but at 7/4 they are not ruling out the possibility of the 60-year-old departing Stamford Bridge before then.

But even if he does survive the next few weeks, the bookmaker and its customers would be very surprised to see Roman Abramovich give him a second chance for the 2018/19 season – after all, he is known to be ‘trigger-happy’ when he believes the manager is under-performing.

Sarri is now 1/6 to not be Chelsea manager when the next campaign gets underway and the current front-runner to take over from the under-fire boss is his number two, club legend Gianfranco Zola, at odds of 5/2.

Diego Simeone, who has been linked with an Atletico Madrid exit for the past couple of years, is considered the 7/2 second favourite with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers 6/1 to call time on his career North of the border and take another crack at management in England’s top tier.

“It couldn’t have gone much worse for Chelsea and Maurizio Sarri on Sunday,” Betway’s Alan Alger told Bettingpro.com. “Given Roman Abramovich’s track record of sacking managers it appears as if the Italian isn’t far away from being the latest Premier League manager to lose his job.

“While we expect him to take charge of the League Cup final, it’s hard to see him being Chelsea’s manager at the start of next season and we make it just 1/6 that they will have a new manager at the helm by then.

“As to who that will be – Blues legend Gianfranco Zola is the favourite to take the reins at Stamford Bridge, with Atletico’s Diego Simeone, constantly linked with the Premier League, next best.”
