Euro 2016 Group B Winner betting odds and tips - England favourites to storm top spot

England will start out as odds-on favourites to advance to the knock-out stages of Euro 2016 as Group B winners after being handed a favourable trio of opposition in France.

The Three Lions are situated in the top half of the draw bracket in a group comprised of Russia, Slovakia and Home Nation rivals Wales - all of whom finished runners-up in their respective qualifying groups.

If the form guide or world rankings are anything to go by, England are justifiably to be regarded as firm favourites to secure top spot, having done so in their last European Championship campaign.

Admittedly, this is a very different England squad to the one which travelled to Poland and Ukraine four years ago, but performances in qualifying and in friendly matches away from home have renewed the sense of belief that a strong run could be on the cards.

Ten wins from ten in qualifying and a recent 3-2 win over World Champions Germany in Berlin from 2-0 down suggest England must be taken seriously in this summer's show-piece.

Patriotic punters have already been lining up to back fourth favourites England in to a best price of 9/1 (Betfred) and they are a mere 1/10 to get out of the group.

England's biggest immediate threat looks to be posed by Russia - the inaugural European Champions - who appear to have been handed a new lease of life under Head coach Leonid Slutsky.

England will in fact begin their Group B campaign against Russia in Marseilles, a fixture which will offer Roy Hodgson's side a key early test and a potential springboard to taking control of the group from the outset.

The Russia fixture is effectively the calm before the storm as England then head to Lens to face Wales in a historic first clash between the two sides in major competition and one which both will be desperate to come out on top.

England have won their last four encounters with Wales dating back to 1984, keeping a clean sheet in each, and providing they can keep a lid on key man Gareth Bale, it's difficult to envisage Chris Coleman's side breaking that mold.

Wales are making their long-awaited debut in this competition and their first tournament appearance since 1958 following a ground-breaking qualifying campaign which saw them finish just two points behind winners Belgium.

The Dragons will be heavily reliant upon Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Sam Vokes and Ashley Williams stepping up to the plate in an otherwise inexperienced squad entering uncharted territory.

Despite taking four points from Belgium in qualifying, Wales know they have it all to do if they are to replicate that level of tenacity in the pressure-cooker of tournament play and must take something from their opener against Slovakia to avoid being cut adrift.

Debutants Slovakia may well be dark horses in this group judging by their resolute qualifying displays which led them to a second placed finish behind only reigning champions Spain.

Liverpool defender Martin Škrtel is at the heart of a well-organised side, who like Wales, will head to France with a sense of freedom and no real expectation on their shoulders.

Experience may well win the day in this group, and with England out to heal the wounds left by their World Cup disappointment in Brazil, expect them to stamp their authority and for Wales fairy-tale run to be cut short.
