England Women are the main attraction on the footballing front at the moment, and bookmaker Betway expects another viewership record to tumble when they take on Norway in the World Cup on Thursday night.

A record 6.9 million tuned into see the Lionesses roar past Cameroon to secure a place in the last eight, and Betway has it firmly odds-on at 1/3 for that to be bettered once again.

“There’s no doubt that this year’s Women’s World Cup has been the most popular on record,” Betway’s Alan Alger told Bettingpro.com. “People are tuning in up and down the country and bookmakers are seeing a notable increase in betting on women’s football as a result.

“Thursday night’s game against Norway is expected to be the most-watched match at the tournament so far and it’s odds-on at 1/3 to eclipse the 6.9 million that tuned in for Sunday’s 3-0 win over Cameroon.”

Betway has Phil Neville’s side down as the odds-on favourites to get past Norway at 1/2, while it is 10/3 they can go one better than the men’s team did at the 2018 World Cup and make it to the final.

“The Lionesses are well-fancied to get past Norway, though a semi-final with either France or the USA looks tough,” Alger added. “We’re offering 10/3 for the girls to out-do the boys and make it to a World Cup final.”
