After a one-year absence from Arsenal’s pre-season schedule, the Emirates Cup returns at the end of the July with the Gunners hosting Benfica, RB Leipzig and Sevilla in this two-day friendly tournament.

Emirates Cup Fixtures

Since 2007 Arsenal have used this two-day feast of football to step up preparations for the new season, but the Emirates Cup was missing from their 2016 pre-season schedule due to work being carried out on the pitch. It is only a one-year absence though, because the North London club has confirmed the Emirates Cup will take place in 2017 across the weekend of July 29 and 30, with Benfica, RB Leipzig and Sevilla the visiting teams for the competition.

Here is the schedule for the two days of action at the Emirates Stadium…

Emirates Cup Rules

The winner of the Emirates Cup will be the team that, unsurprisingly, gains the most points over the course of the weekend. The winner of each match will receive three points, with a draw meaning both sides get a point – but that is not the only way for a team to improve its points tally.

This competition also offers an incentive to put on an attacking show because teams are given bonus points for every goal they score.

If two or more teams finish level on points, goal difference will be used to determine the tournament winner. If the teams cannot be split by that method, the greater number of goals scored will be used, and if that is not enough it will be down to who had the most shots on target in the competition.

So other words, teams are encouraged to attack.
