Atletico Madrid to keep a clean sheet at home to Sevilla @ 17/20 with William Hill (18:00 GMT kick-off)

Long renowned for their defensive solidity, Atletico Madrid are certainly living up to their reputation at present as being a very difficult team to break down because they have kept six clean sheets in their last seven matches, all of the shutouts resulting in victories.

Admittedly it will not be easy to record another clean sheet against a Sevilla side whose games tend to be much more open, but the visitors went down 1-0 away to Alaves in La Liga on Sunday and could not equalise even when their opponents were reduced to 10 men for the last seven minutes plus stoppage time.

Unbeaten at home domestically this season and having conceded only three goals in 10 such matches, Atletico look a good bet to further enhance that impressive record – but we will keep a 0-0 draw on our side just in case Sevilla hold firm too.

Valencia v Alaves – Home win and under 3.5 goals in the match @ Evens with Ladbrokes (18:00 GMT)

Valencia appear to be firmly back on track after their pre-Christmas wobble and can establish themselves as hot favourites to reach the semi-finals by claiming a first-leg advantage in this tie.

Los Che’s only slip-up at home this term was against Villarreal on December 23, but they have put that loss behind them with three straight wins as they bid to secure a return to the Champions League via La Liga.

Alaves have improved massively since coach Abelardo took charge at the start of December, but while they are unlikely to suffer a decisive beating here we do not see them improving upon their 2-1 defeat at home to Valencia in October given the form their hosts are producing this season.

Espanyol v Barcelona – Under 2.5 goals @ 6/4 with Unibet (20:00 GMT)

This is the first of three matches between these local rivals in 19 days and Espanyol’s good recent form suggests they will be far more competitive against Barcelona than when they lost 5-0 at Camp Nou in September.

Quique Sanchez Flores has opted to remain at Espanyol rather than take over at Stoke and the decision may just have been prompted by his team turning around their Copa del Rey tie against Levante last week, losing the first leg 2-1 at home but winning 2-0 away.

The Budgerigars have really improved defensively over the course of their last half-dozen matches and are fancied to avoid an embarrassment here, although Barcelona should run out comfortable victors in the tie as a whole.
