The 2019 Copa America continues with the second semi-final taking place on Wednesday night, and we have picked out our favourite bet for the clash between Chile and Peru.

Today’s Best Copa America Bet: Wednesday, July 3

Leigh Copson: Back Chile to win to nil vs. Peru @ 33/20 Coral

Chile have made hard work of it over their past few games, but they have made it to the semi-finals of the Copa America and are now just one win away from playing for the trophy. Standing in their way are a Peru team who have done well just to make it this far, but could the best be yet to come for them in this tournament?

Chile raced out of the blocks with back-to-back wins over Japan and Ecuador to book a place in the knockout stage with a game to spare, so it was not considered a major disaster when the lost their final group match to Uruguay. That did set up a tough quarter-final clash with Colombia and although they dominated that encounter, they needed penalties to get the job done after seeing two ‘goals’ get ruled out by VAR over the course of 120 minutes. Chile got the job done though and they will be hoping to avoid similar drama in their semi-final tie.

Peru also needed a spot-kick shootout to make it to the final four. Having scraped through the group stage courtesy of a win over Bolivia and draw against Venezuela, they were expected to bow out of the tournament when they were paired with Uruguay in the quarter-finals. They would have too had Edinson Cavani and Diego Godin not missed a couple of sitters for the Uruguayans, but that is exactly what they did and the Peruvians punished that wastefulness when the match went to penalties, with Edison Flores wrapping up the victory after Luis Suarez missed his spot-kick.

Can they now pull off another shock victory to send Chile home on Wednesday? I do not see that happening. While bringing you up to date with Peru’s run to the semi-finals I missed out one result – a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Brazil. Yes they did keep out the Uruguayans last time out, before that was more down to their opponent’s profligacy in front of goal than great defending. Chile have not exactly been free-scoring, but against this defence they should be presented with a few chances to score and I expect them to at least take one of them. I also expect them to shut out the Peruvians, who have scored in only one of their four matches in this year’s Copa America.
