Chelsea v West Ham United Betting Tips Explained

Chelsea let us down last week when we fancied them to beat Tottenham and the out-of-form, deposed champions are not expected to have it easy in this London derby either.

A 28-year unbeaten run against Spurs at Stamford Bridge was shattered by Dele Alli’s second-half double which left the Blues eight points adrift of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

That deficit looks highly unlikely to be overcome and there must be fears of a summer exodus from Chelsea, starting with manager Antonio Conte and which may also potentially include Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso.

The only way Conte can salvage the season now is by winning the FA Cup, with a semi-final against Southampton to come in a fortnight, and that will surely take precedence over the Premier League matches against West Ham, Saints and Burnley in between.

Those fixtures do offer a chance to rebuild some confidence after a largely poor 2018 so far, but West Ham have shown themselves to be a dangerous opponent of late if not a consistent one.

The Hammers won the reverse fixture in December with an early Marko Arnautovic goal and over the last few months they have been a team who have interspersed some very indifferent form with the occasional decisive victory, for example 3-0 at home to Southampton last week.

David Moyes looks likely to keep the East Enders up, but there remains much discontent in their part of the capital with much of it aimed at the club’s owners amid those unedifying scenes during the home loss to Burnley.

Against the top clubs, Moyes sets up his team to be defensively solid and with Chelsea far from firing on all cylinders just now, West Ham are backed to push their hosts all the way at the very least.
