Chelsea v Hull City Betting Tips Explained

Chelsea eased some of the pressure on under-fire manager Antonio Conte with a morale-boosting 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Monday night, but the Italian remains the leading contender in the bookmakers’ “Sack Race” and he could once again find himself an odds-on favourite if the Blues do not successfully negotiate this FA Cup fifth-round tie with Hull City. After all, this competition is represents their best opportunity for Conte’s side to lift silverware this season. So can they avoid an embarrassing exit?

Visitors Hull City will arrive at Stamford Bridge on the back of a hugely-important 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest last weekend. Nigel Adkins has struggled to turn things around since he arrived at the KCOM Stadium and the Tigers find themselves hovering dangerously above the relegation zone in the Championship as they prepare to take a week off from league duty. A positive result against the reigning Premier League champions would certainly give Hull a major shot in the arm as they fight for survival in the second tier, but it is hard to have any confidence in them avoiding defeat here.

Chelsea have endured some miserable home results this season, with the latest coming at the end of January when they were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth, but on the whole their form at Stamford Bridge has actually been pretty decent on the domestic front this season and they are now taking on a Hull team that have been woeful on their travels recently, despite that win at Forest a week ago. The Tigers have managed just three competitive wins away from the KCOM Stadium this season and I do not expect number four to come on the King’s Road.

Therefore I recommend heading into the handicap market for Friday night’s cup tie, where you can get favourable odds on backing Chelsea to overcome a two-goal handicap. The Blues have shut out their opponents in six of their last eight home matches and when you look at their most recent victories, their last five competitive wins have come by at least three goals. Fellow Premier League side Newcastle United were comfortably dispatched 3-0 in the last round of this competition, and I expect we should see a similar scoreline on Friday night as Chelsea move into the last eight.

I also expect to see Eden Hazard play a goal-scoring role for the Blues. Conte has not been getting much from his strikers over the past several weeks but the Belgian has stepped in to fill the void, netting six goals in his last five matches in all competitions. Two of those goals have handed me winning bets in the past couple of weeks so I see no reason to go away from the hot hand here. Hazard will undoubtedly torment the Hull defence on Friday night and I expect to see him cap off his performance with a goal
