Championship betting tips: 5 best bets for the games on October 2-3

Ben Darvill 1 Oct 2018

Championship betting tips: 5 best bets for the games on October 2-3. Can Swansea follow up their 3-0 win over QPR with victory at Wigan, and will West Brom keep ahold of their place at the summit? Read on for our five best bets for the Championship games between October 2-3.

Wigan vs Swansea City (Tuesday, 19:45 BST)

Wigan fell to a 1-0 loss in their last game as they became the latest side to get beaten by the in-form Norwich. Away from this loss, Wigan have looked in good form this year, winning five of their 10 games, drawing once and losing four times. 14 goals scored is a decent return, although they have also conceded 12 times. Swansea arrive on the back of a very impressive 3-0 win over QPR at the Liberty Stadium with the gap between themselves and West Brom at the top now just four points. Wigan are shorter in value than the Swans due to the fact they are playing at home, and while Swansea offer good value, we are not convinced by them on the road. With this in mind, we are backing Swansea in the draw no bet market.

Aston Villa vs Preston (Tuesday, 19:45 BST)

Aston Villa have been frustratingly inconsistent this season as their campaign has failed to ever really get off the ground. Three wins, five draws and two defeats has seen them onto 14 points, while they have scored 16 goals and conceded 15. Villa have not shown the sort of form that took them to the play-off final last season, however, they are only six points off the top of the table despite their poor start, and if they can embark on a run of wins, then they will climb back towards where they feel they should be. Preston arrive after just a single win, along with two draws and seven defeats, with a massive 21 goals conceded in 10 games a huge worry. Playing against the league’s bottom side at home would usually see the hosts as huge favourites, but such has been Villa’s profligacy that they can be backed at relative value.

Sheffield Wednesday vs West Brom (Wednesday, 19:45 BST)

Sheffield Wednesday secured an impressive 1-1 draw with Leeds on Friday as they continued to take steps towards the play-off spots. Four wins, three draws and three defeats means they have picked up 15 points and are just five short of the top spots. Opponents West Brom arrive as the top team in the league with 20 points from 10 games, leading Leeds and Middlesbrough by a point. A 3-2 win over Preston in their last game may not have been the most secure of wins, but it did see them ensure that their now five game unbeaten run in the league was preserved. Now, the Baggies will be looking to claim their seventh win of the competition, and they are going at 23/20 to win the game with Betway.

Derby County vs Norwich City (Wednesday, 19:45 BST)

Derby County have been in good form this season, with five wins, a draw and four defeats seeing them onto 16 points for the campaign so far. While Derby are just four points behind leaders West Brom, the gap seems far bigger than that, with the outfit seemingly dropping points at regular intervals. A 1-0 loss in their last game was supremely disappointing for the side and they now face a very tough test in the form of Norwich, who are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions, a record which spans back to the end of August. However, playing away form home in the Championship is never easy, and we are therefore recommending utilising the draw no bet market on this one.

Nottingham Forest vs Millwall (Wednesday, 19:45 BST)

Nottingham Forest picked up a point on their travels at the weekend as they secured a 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers. Currently sitting in 11th in the league with 15 points, Forest are only five short of West Brom at the top, and another win would apply more pressure to those above them. Millwall arrive with just a single win this season after 10 games, while they have only scored nine goals and conceded 16 times. Their record is one that sees them earmarked for relegation, and unless they can turn things around quickly, their situation will only get worse. With this in mind, we are backing Forest to get back to winning ways.
