All-English Champions League Final Now 6/5 As Quartet Make It Through

Will there be an English winner of the Champions League this year? The bookies weigh in with their predictions.

Liverpool romped to an astonishing 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in Germany on Wednesday as a Sadio Mane double enabled Jurgen Klopp’s men to make it into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The evening before had seen Manchester City hammer Schalke 7-0 to secure a 10-2 aggregate win, while last week saw Manchester United oust PSG asTottenham eased through by beating Borussia Dortmund.

England’s run in the Champions League this season has been a superb one so far, with all four sides through, while French champions PSG, German champions Bayern Munich and Bundesliga champions-elect Dortmund have all been knocked out by English sides, showing how well they have been playing.

Of course, it should be remembered that the likes of Barcelona and Juventus do remain, but with underdogs like Porto and Ajax available to be drawn in the next round, the English sides will be hoping they are drawn against the latter two rather than the former.

Now, with four of the eight remaining teams hailing from the Premier League, bet365 have made it 6/5 that we have an all-English final, in from 4/1.

Manchester City currently lead the way in the outright market at 5/2, while the bookie make it 4/6 that an English side lift the trophy.

“We had originally quoted 16/1 about all 4 progressing when the draw was made back in December,” Steve Freeth of bet365 told Bettingpro.

“Man Utd then went out to 20/1 to qualify after the home defeat versus PSG making a full set unlikely.

“However, the Red Devils pulled off a stunning victory in Paris and Liverpool put the icing on the cake in Munich, joining Man City and Spurs, in what could lead to the first all-English final since Moscow in 2008.”
