Cameroon v Chile Betting Tips Explained

Chile’s preparations for the 2017 Confederations Cup have been a mixed bag. Having eased to a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso on home soil, they failed to hold onto a one-goal advantage as they drew 1-1 with Russia in their first summer outing on European soil. On Tuesday night they looked set to notch their second win of the summer when they raced to a 2-0 goal lead in less than 20 minutes against Romania, but the Romania’s hit back to win 3-2 and that means Chile go into their Confederations Cup opener on a downer. Can they bounce back on Sunday night?

Lining up opposite them are a Cameroon side that have already enjoyed some success this year, winning the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations back in February. They went into that tournament with very little expected of them following the withdrawal of some big-name players, including Joel Matip and Eric Choupo-Moting, but Hugo Broos masterminded a shock run to the final and when they faced Egypt for the trophy they fought back from 1-0 down to win the match 2-1, with Vincent Aboubakar snatching the winner two minutes from time.

Since then they have been hit-and-miss, beating Tunisia and Morocco while losing to both Guinea and Colombia. Therefore it is no surprise to see coach Broos setting low expectations for his side in Russia.

“I am someone who is realistic, who can put things in perspective,” he told “Apart from Russia, you are in with the seven best teams in the world because they are all champions of their continents, so you are at a very high level. This is why I think we have to start this tournament with modest expectations and try to get through the first round, which will be hard.”

Cameroon were hammered 4-0 by the Colombians on Tuesday night and that does not bode well for this meeting with Chile. The Chileans are hardly in outstanding form right now, but they have fantastic talent throughout the squad and they should be too much for Cameroon in this Confederations Cup group clash.

I expect Alexis Sanchez to help them on their way by finding the back of the net for the national team once again. Sanchez enjoyed a career-best league campaign last season, scoring 24 Premier League goals for Arsenal, and he has now scored six goals in his last seven appearances for club and country. Sanchez is yet to get on target for Chile since linking up with the national team once again, but it is only a matter of time before he bags his 35th goal for his country and it could come against Cameroon on Sunday night.
