Burnley v West Ham United Betting Tips Explained

West Ham United’s first season at their new home has been one to forget, with the Hammers poised to finish in the bottom half of the table just 12 months after they qualified for the Europa League by finishing in the top seven of the Premier League. Their form at the London Stadium has been pretty miserable with their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool a somewhat appropriate end to their home fixtures, and their away form has been even worse with just four wins coming in 18 games.

That has led to plenty of questions about the future of manager Slaven Bilic, but the Croatian appears to be going nowhere this summer having already drawn up plans to improve his squad during the summer transfer window.

“Next season, not only do we have to improve our performances, but we need to stay away from injuries and to try to strengthen our squad,” Bilic told reporters after the loss to Liverpool. “We need quality in a few positions that we need to improve. For a lot of games, we were without more than a few players and sometimes we coped with it and played really good and people said ‘We don’t need anyone’ but over the long term, over the season, we need more quality.”

But before they can start looking ahead to the 2017/18 campaign they have the small matter of playing one more Premier League game, and they will not be relishing this trip to face a Burnley side that have enjoyed a successful first season back in the top flight.

Burnley may be only six points clear of the relegation zone heading into the final weekend, but Sean Dyche’s side have not looked like getting relegated this season and a big reason for that is their strong home form. The Clarets have won 10 of their 18 games so far, losing only five, and the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton have all dropped points at Turf Moor. I expect West Ham to be the latest to drop points there – in fact, I expect them to return home empty-handed.

The Hammers will not even give their supporters something to cheer by finding the back of the net at Burnley. Only a handful of clubs have conceded less goals at home than Burnley this season – all of them being in the top seven – and West Ham have hardly been free-scoring in recent months. Bilic’s boys have been shut out in four of their last seven Premier League fixtures and when Burnley win they tend to keep a clean sheet – they have shut out their opponents in seven of their victories. That could well be the case again here.
