Bournemouth v Manchester United Betting Tips Explained

Manchester United avoided the embarrassment of handing Manchester City the Premier League title when they came back from two goals down to win 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium, but they were merely delaying the inevitable and some would say that they found an even more embarrassing way to do it this past weekend. The Red Devils crashed to a shock 1-0 home defeat at the hands of rock-bottom West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, and that loss confirmed City as champions.

Afterwards manager Jose Mourinho claimed too many people were “on the moon” because of the come-from-behind win over City the week prior, and he went on to tell reporters that “you could see the difference in the attitude of the players compared to last week”. It was a damning review from the Portuguese and he will be demanding a response from his side this week as they get set for two important matches in the space of four days.

Next Saturday they will pay a visit to the national stadium to face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, but before then there is the small matter of a trip to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

With these two games so close together you could forgive Mourinho for putting all of his eggs in the FA Cup baskets – after all, that is the only piece of silverware United can now win this season. But a top-three finish, which would guarantee a spot in the group stage of next season’s Champions League, is far from secure with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur hot on their heels, so the Red Devils do need a few more wins to ensure they do not have to deal with the qualifying rounds of next year’s European competition. Will one of them come at the Vitality Stadium?

Hosts Bournemouth are still in the hunt for a top-half finish despite a disappointing run of form that has seen them win only one of their last eight games in the Premier League. Manager Eddie Howe offered no excuses after the 3-0 defeat at Liverpool in the weekend, conceding his side had been beaten by a “very good team”, but that has been the story of the Cherries’ season when it comes to meetings with top six.

Bournemouth have faced English football’s elite on 11 occasions in the Premier League this season and they have managed just two wins – against out-of-form teams in Chelsea and Arsenal – while losing nine times. That does not bode well for a meeting with Manchester United, even if the Red Devils were humiliated at Old Trafford at the weekend. The Red Devils should bounce back with a win on Wednesday night and it is likely to come in a game that sees at least three goals. 18 of Bournemouth’s last 21 have seen Over 2.5 Total Goals and that has also been a winning bet on eight of their 11 games against the top six.

I am staying with the subject of goals for my second recommendation too, because I am backing both teams to find the back of the net. Bournemouth have failed to score in only one of their last 14 Premier League fixtures and they have not drawn a blank at home in the league since the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea back on October 28. The Cherries can grab a goal here, but they will not score enough times to avoid defeat.
