Bookies slash Maurizio Sarri’s sack odds as Chelsea get set to finally pull the trigger

Bookmakers have slashed their odds on Maurizio Sarri being the next Premier League manager to leave his post following reports Chelsea could sack the under-fire boss during the international break.

The Blues’ bid for a top-four finish suffered another setback as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Everton on Sunday, and afterwards a beleaguered Sarri claimed his side may have reached their “mental limit”.

That is not the first time he has made strange comments surrounding his team – last month in the wake of an embarrassing 4-0 thrashing at Bournemouth he claimed he was struggling to motivate his team despite the fact they were still fighting for a top-four finish as well as silverware in both domestic cups and the Europa League.

And then came the most bizarre moment of them all as his goalkeeper refused to be substituted during the League Cup Final loss to Manchester City, resulting in the Italian going into a complete meltdown on the sidelines before storming off towards the dressing room while the match was still in progress.

Sarri had appeared to turn things around a little since that loss at Wembley, but Sunday’s defeat at Goodison Park exposed failings that Chelsea fans have become all too familiar with this season, and reports now suggest that the 2-0 reverse could be the straw that has broken the camel’s back.

According to The Express newspaper, owner Roman Abramovich is considering pulling the trigger during this international break in order to give the club some time to find Sarri’s successor, and bookmaker Betway has responded to the reports by slashing the odds on the Chelsea boss being the next top-flight managerial casualty from 8/11 to 4/1.

“Sarri must be feeling the heat and we’ve slashed his odds in the sack race,” Betway’s Alan Alger told Bettingpro.com. “Anyone who thinks he can scrape his way through to the end of the season, particularly with Europa League hopes intact, can back him at 2/1 to still be in the Chelsea dugout on the final day.”
