Birmingham City v Cardiff City Predictions

Birmingham City v Cardiff City Betting Tips Explained

Birmingham City welcome Championship leaders Cardiff City to St Andrew’s on Friday night as new manager Steve Cotterill's tenure at the club begins in earnest. The 53-year-old replaced Harry Redknapp last month after a disappointing run of form saw City suffer six defeats in eight matches. Cotterrill was Redknapp's assistant at the Championship club at the end of last season, when the duo helped the Blues avoid relegation, but turned down an opportunity to stay on in that role during the summer.

And the former Bristol City boss certainly has another difficult job on his hands on his return with Birmingham sitting third from bottom on eight points and with just two league wins to their name so far this term. They come into the clash on the back of a 6-1 thumping at Hull City last time out and face a Cardiff side who have slipped to just one defeat in England's second tier this season.

The Blues looked jaded against Hull but the international break will have given them an opportunity to regroup and recharge their batteries. And they'll need to be at 100% with Neil Warnock's charges winning seven of their opening 11 fixtures to set the pace early on. The visitors also boast one the best attacking and defensive records in the division with 17 goals scored and just nine conceded.

The Bluebirds were held to a goalless stalemate at home to Derby County prior to the international break but did manage to take seven points in a week, which Warnock was content with.

"In 11 games I think we've played six of the best teams and we've done very well. Seven points in a week is a tremendous effort," he told BBC Sport.

Cotterill has had several days to prepare his players for this contest but it's difficult to see them getting the better of an in-form Cardiff given their woeful start to the season. An away win is our pick for this one, although, we feel the Blues will get on the scoresheet with a new manager to impress.
