Aston Villa vs Derby County Playoff Final Betting Tips

So here we are, the final day of the Championship season is upon us, with only two teams left to fight over the last place in the Premier League for the 2019/20 season. After months of battling with goals and shocks along the way, only Derby and Aston Villa remain to play at Wembley on May 27th. Villa were the first side to secure their place in the final after they defeated West Brom 4-3 on penalties following a derby clash that did not disappoint. Derby County meanwhile were able to defeat Leeds 4-2 at Elland Road as they went through 4-3 on aggregate in a game of superb drama, with both teams going down to 10-men in the clash. Now, Frank Lampard will pit his wits against Dean Smith of Aston Villa in a battle that should be incredibly entertaining.

For Villa, their road to this point came via finishing fifth in the Championship as their late run across the season was one that secured their place in the playoffs following 10 wins in a row between March 2nd to April 22nd. 20 wins across the regular season came alongside 16 draws and 10 defeats, with the 82 goals they scored showing they are very good going forward and should not be taken lightly despite their struggles at the back (61 goals conceded). Derby on the other hand won 20 times, drew 16 and lost 10, while they were fairly good going forward hitting 69 goals, and they displayed they can outscore the side that finished in third in Leeds, and they will now look to spring another surprise in the final with Villa fancied to win this one. It is not difficult to figure out why Villa are the favourites in this one as they boast a 7-0 aggregate win over Derby across the season, with a 4-0 victory over the side at home before they triumphed 3-0 in the away match.

However, a game at Wembley does not always go to type, with the pressures of appearing on one of the biggest stages in football coupled with the lucrative prize on offer means that the favourite does not always come through on their promise. Villa will be very aware of their tag as favourites then, and while it can often spur a team on, it can also have the exact opposite effect, something that Leeds will know all too well following their playoff elimination to Derby in the last round. Despite this, we think that Villa have been able to prove that they are the team to beat in the playoffs, and they knocked out a West Brom side that were fancied to eliminate them. With this in mind, we are backing Villa to pick up a huge victory at 13/10 with William Hill.

Our anytime scorer tip surely cannot see any player other than the excellent Tammy Abraham backed in this one. The forward is clearly a man that just loves scoring goals, and he does not seem to have any gripes about being in the Championship, instead utilising the time to score goals and prove to Chelsea that he deserves a chance to ply his trade in the Premier League next season. His loan spells have generally ended in the club he has played at wishing they had the ability to keep him, with 23 goals in 41 appearances for Bristol City on loan seeing him give the side a real edge, and while he struggled for Swansea last year as he scored five in 31, he has exploded into life once again for a Championship club, netting 25 goals in 37 appearances in a campaign that continues to showcase his goal scoring threat which will only increase as he becomes more experienced. Recent weeks have been kind to Abraham as he has managed to score five goals in his last seven games including the second goal against West Brom in the first leg of their playoff that completed a remarkable turnaround for the side, while he boasts an impressive record against Derby this season, scoring in both of Villa's games against the side in the Championship this campaign. The Playoff final at Wembley provides Abraham with his best chance yet of showcasing his ability on the biggest stage of all, and if he can score, then Chelsea will surely have to take notice of him, and if they don't, then perhaps another top side will.
