Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur Betting Tips Explained

Arsenal will emerge from the international break desperate to bounce back from the 3-1 defeat at Manchester City last time out. Manager Arsene Wenger blasted the match officials in the wake of the loss and he did have a justified grievance because the third goal should have been ruled out for offside, but the simple fact is – once again – the Gunners had been outclassed by a title rival and the result emphasised the gap that now exists between them and the very best in English football.

And speaking of gaps, go to any Arsenal home game and you can find traders selling “Mind The Gap” London Underground t-shirts that take a cheap shot at rivals Tottenham Hotspur – but it is time those t-shirts are put in a garage somewhere because it is Spurs who are opening up a gap between themselves and the Gunners after spending years in the shadow of their North London rivals.

Tottenham emerge from the international break third in the Premier League table, three places and four points clear of Arsenal, and they will return to action in buoyant mood after recording back-to-back victories prior to the brief hiatus. They bounced back from the League Cup loss to West Ham United and Premier League defeat to Manchester United by stunning Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League, and they followed that up with a return to winning ways in the Premier League by beating Crystal Palace last time out.

Now they are looking to make it three wins in a row and they will be boosted by the availability of star man Harry Kane, who missed out on England’s recent friendlies after picking up a knock against Palace. Mauricio Pochettino has insisted the striker will be fit to lead the line against the Gunners at lunchtime on Saturday, and I expect him to play a key role in Spurs taking something from this trip to the Emirates Stadium.

Tottenham have now lost only one of their last seven meetings with Arsenal and have avoided defeat in each of their last three visits to the Emirates, while their away form in the league has been excellent this season with four wins coming from five games. I would not be shocked to see them get the better of the Gunners on Saturday, but these two teams have had a knack for playing out draws in recent years so I am not 100% confident about Spurs’ chances. Therefore the Tottenham-Draw Double Chance appears to be the best option here.

And going back to Kane, the Tottenham striker has put his usual August drought behind him to rack up eight Premier League goals in the space on the last two months, and he has now scored 11 goals in his last 10 appearances for club and country. Kane also has a healthy habit of scoring against Arsenal – he has scored in each of his last four games against the Gunners and has netted in each of his last two outings at the Emirates – so there is plenty of temptation to back him to score anytime.

For my final recommendation I suggest backing this match to produce Under 2.5 Total Goals. This has been a winning bet in three of the last four meetings between the two clubs and each of the last five encounters at the Emirates Stadium. In fact, the last three Arsenal v Tottenham fixtures at the home of the Gunners have ended in 1-1 draws, so history suggests goals will be at a premium once again.
